Reccomend me a PSU wtih a budget of £40

    Hey there,

Well it appears that my PSU has failed on me, and as such I require to purchase a new one.

Can you please reccomend me a good PSU for around £40?

    Current Specs:
    Asus P5GD1 -
    P4 540 3.2GHz HT 1MB L2 cache
    2 * 512MB DDR PC3200
    X1950pro 256Mb
    250GB SATA Hard drive 7200RPM
    1 DVD drive
    1 DVD-RW / CD-RW drive
memory card port thingy :/ xD

I might wish to upgrade my motherboard, RAM and CPU at a point as well, so I think 400+W will be necessary, although you guys are in the know, so perhaps you could share your opinions regarding that.

Thank you once again, and I apologise for the consistent questioning xD

    Dave

personal favourite cos its fantastic value for money (high end psu for mid range price)

    OCZ 600SXS StealthXStream 600W PSU (3 year Direct Manufacturer's PowerSwap warranty) - OCZ600SXS - microdirect.co.uk

dont ever skimp on a psu, power wise and price wise. a cheap psu is mor elikely to blow on you and take half your rig out. power - its always better to get more than you need, your better off when your psu is only working half its capacity to power your rig, rather than have it work at peak (kills life and then fails!)
also you should have no problems when it comes to upgrading to anything bigger and better

Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

lol beaten, nice price for that 600w OCZ btw. The Corsair is also a good unit although supplying slightly less power but will be a lot cheaper if you get free delivery with Hexus

hehe played! tho its always amps on the 12v rail you should look at, although the corsair is a good psu , it only has 33A on the 12v, whereas the ocz has 4 12v rails each with 18A

that and its only a few quid more

I do like the look of that corsair, and I hear very very good things about them, so perhaps I will go with that, if you think it is good, although I am not eligible for Scan delivery.

In that case I might postpone ordering for a while, until I am eligible. I have learned more from this forum, than anywhere else regarding Hardware, so I have no intention of leaving you all xD

Once again, I thank you for your input, and for helping out

Sometimes that thing is way out. You can run a lot on a decent 300w PSU. On the SPCR forum a guy is running an 8800GT and a overclocked Q6600 on an Antec 350w PSU just fine.

Re: Reccomend me a PSU wtih a budget of £40

Ah thanks, I got <300W including every little thing I could think of adding.

The upgrade I had in mind also uses less power, which is to be expected, considering newer processors appear to be more power efficient, definitely more so than my old P4 xD

I've taken a fancy to that corsair now, unless there are any other suggestions? Although it seems perfect for me ^_^

I'm stealing my Mum's ancient computer over the next week, which will most likely also die on me :/
But it will do for revision purposes

Thanks once again for all your help =D

I agree, very few people have systems that need more than 400/450 watt at load (unless sli or crossfire). As long as you get a good quality psu you should be fine.

    I'd go with the corsair.

oh for sure, its not perfect, but i did say its good for giving you an idea. you'd rather be safe than sorry! i wanna upgrade to e6750 / hd3870 and it seems my ocz modstream 450w will do the job but i think il get a corsair HX just to be safe (and also i wont be paying!)

Its good for the cash but its definitely not High End as you say.
THe OCZ PSus went downhill for some reason after the Powerstreams. Whether they started using cheaper components or the popularity factor just wore off i dont know.

Try this: Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Very nice unit for the price.

The 600W and 700W Gamestreams are. Not sure about the Stealths though.

    Hehehe

I like how friendly and knowledgable everyone seems here. Really good community xD

Incindentally, how do I thank people that have helped me? Might be the wrong place to ask, and I bet there is a thread that is blatantly obvious, and that states the answer somwhere as well huh? xD
