Voltage questions

Hey there, just wanted to ask a few questions about voltages,

Firstly, which software is the most reliable to monitor voltages?

I have ASUS probe, Everest ultimate and CPUZ, I have heard CPUZ is not reliable for voltage monitoring, but ASUS probe and Everest give the same readings as CPU-Z :O_o1:

In my Bios, ive set the vcore to 1.375, ASUS probe and Everest show vcore to be on 1.26v, same with CPU-Z.

Secondly how do I find out my vdrop, ASUS probe shows vcore to be 1.26v on idle, underload it drops to 1.23v.

The other voltage values are under 100% CPU usage are:
+3.3v = 3.30v idle - 3.3v load
+5v = 5.11v idle and 5.06 / 5.02v under load
+12v = fluctuates from 11.87 to 11.82v, sometimes drops to 11.78v.
+5v standby = varies from 4.99v lowest to 5.06v

Are these readings safe? Any comments? As I dont know much about these readings and their effects. Any comments and suggestions would be welcome.

This will give you a lot of info on Vdrop
Vcore does not really mean much to you, as long as the system is stable it doesn't matter if it show as +0.15V or 1.234V. It is just a scale.

Your other voltages are well within the 3% of nominal voltage, nothing to worry about.

Go off the BIOS settings.

I read that article the first day it was available and I have to say it is an excellent article especially regarding the VID and Vdroop parts. Clear, concise with charts showing why "Vdroop" is intended and VID is the maximum voltage available to the cpu. I was hoping to have a chance of posting that link to show off my knowledge ;) :p but you beat me too it. :)

Lol Iranu, yes indeed its a very good article, I took it out last night but slept without reading it and forgot about it in the morning, anyways thanks for referring it again and reminding me, I was quite surprised by the Power consumption of that CPU..

I guess we wont be needing those 1000W PSUs in the future either, if component manufacturers opt for considering power comsumption as a main concern, we might just end up going to lower spec PSUs rather than going higher!

Just about ALL programs are poor for reading voltages from my experience.

Speedfan is probably the worst of the lot......closely followed by ASUS probe.

Everest seems to come closest but you cant beat using a DMM.

Look at the power usage at 1.2~2.4Ghz, if every single computer and server in the world throttle down to THAT kind of power usage we wouldn't be worrying about global warming.

Although I'm amazed that system still used 385W full load @ 4Ghz. My Pentium D (which have ultra-high TDP as well) @ 4Ghz only draws 280W full load. But of course the quad core is 3 times as fast :S

Where are the Penryn Quad-core laptops :S
