    Motherboard dead or fixable issue?

    I have a Asus P5G-MX which is a budget Socket 775 motherboard

The connectors gradually stopped working starting with the USB ports and now the Video port.

Initially i could boot up and run Xp as normal but then some USB ports didn't recognise when i put in a USB drive in them.

Shortly afterward, when booting, there was no video to the screen. When this happens its hard to do anything from a software point of view so just wondering if the mobo is dead or if this is a know fixable issue?

Just to also say that I was using a 250W PSU (bestec) with this mobo and a 2Ghz Pentium Dual Core CPu woth 800Mhz FSB (E2180)

The powersupply appears to be cooked and was wondering of 250W is too low for this type of CPU? Where can I find power requirements for this?

Any 250W PSU could easily have problems powering any PC made in the last few years.

Also check for bulging/leaking capacitors on the motherboard.

A good quality branded 350W will do fine - my Tagain 350W has worked fine on my P4D 2.8 with two HDs + two DVD drives + a couple of PCI cards for the past few years. Brands like PC Power & Cooling (bought by OCZ, I think?), Corsair or Seasonic are good ones. If I were to get a new PSU now, I would get a 400W+ to give a little headroom.

You might just get away with 250 (pushing it though), but that purely depends on what other parts you have in there. Either way, I wouldn't like running it on that.

Assuming 250W was enough anyway, you should be sticking to branded stuff. Whos bestec?
