    Strange bootup

    hi, my specs are basically:
    q6600 @ 3.0ghz
    8800gtx @ 650mhz/2000mhz
    ram @ 833mhz (5-5-5-15)

basically when my pc has been off for a long time (psu still plugged in), when i press the swich to turn it on, it all boots up fine, but nothing comes up on the monitor.. (however it still boots up to windows and ends up on the desktop just fine, cos im able to alt-f4 restart blindly)

instead i normally wait a few mins until i see the hdd loading light is off, then i press the restart button, and then it boots up fine again, and the monitor turns on!

anyone know why this may be? i think it could be because the cpu or the gfx card may need time to heat up or something?

    any comments welcomed! thanks

    Re: Strange bootup

That's a bit of a strange one. The CPU and graphics card don't need time to heat up I can say that for sure.

I would first try maybe unplugging and reconnecting all the connections on your monitor and graphics card.

After that, when your PC is on but no picture is the power light on your monitor indicating the monitor is still in standby or is it showing fully on while the screen is blank?

    Re: Strange bootup

it shows its on standby, not on.
my led on my monitor is yellow when on standby, but turns blue when it has something on it... if that makes sense

    Re: Strange bootup

Yes that makes sense. It seems the monitor might not be getting the signal from the graphics card that tells it to turn on. Try turning the monitor on with the button before you turn on the PC or just after.

Might sound daft, but have you tried using the other dvi connector on your graphics card to see if that make's a difference?

Sounds like something may be going into "sleep" or low power mode. Check the power settings in the BIOS & Windows and read the Monitor manual.

    Re: Strange bootup

    bumpity bump:

This problem has really started to annoy me now, so i'll try and re-explain the problem:

So at the end of every night i turn off my pc using shut down.
I wake up in the morning and i press the power button on my antec 900...
0.5 seconds after the button is pressed i hear the hard drives spinning up, then i hear the click which i assume means there fully spun up.(takes about 5 seconds)
I then look at my monitor which when on and has no signal, displays a yellow led, however when recieving a signal the led turns blue.
So the monitor stays yellow and after a minute or so i hear the intro jingle to vista xp. But of course, i have no signal on my monitor.

So as a temporary fix, what i do is wait for the hard drives to spin up, then i press the reset button, which causes the monitor to turn on afterwards.
This is beginning to bug me now so i was just wondering if you guys/gals have any potential fixes?
I have tried a new dvi cable and tried alternatives dvi output slots on the gfx card, all to no avail.
All system specs are accurate in the 'my system' thing on the left hand side.

    Many Thanks

well the monitor is left on as default, whether recieving a signal or not.
but yeah if i turned it off, and then wait till jingle, it would still show as no signal.

    Re: Strange bootup

just tried the latest bios and still the same problem occurs.

It seems like on the first boot, either the graphics card isnt sending a signal to the monitor, or
the monitor doesnt accept a signal

    Re: Strange bootup

it is looking like a PSU issue now, i guess another thing to heck is the voltage of the cmos battery, bit of a long shot but it costs less than a new PSU.

    Re: Strange bootup

    psu is a corsair hx620.
still is whisper quiet and has not been stressed at all.

cpu clocks are overclocked a wee bit, as are the gfx clocks, will set them back to default and see what happens.

@GoNz0 - do u think i should buy a new cmos battery then? or by "checking voltage" do u mean setting it in the bios?
