Question regarding Overclocking
Hey all, as you might be knowing :P, im running my e6300 on 3.0Ghz, with my Kingston value ram 667Mhz on 856Mhz with the FSB at 428Mhz.
Today, just for fun, i tried to push it further to see how far I can go, hearing that value ram restricts you etc etc.
I was able to set the FSB at 457, giving the CPU 1.435v in BIOS ( Dont know why it shows 1.30 in all other softwares ), the CPU reached 3.2Ghz, booted up fine, ran OCCT, all stable with acceptable temps.
The main issue was the ram, since my board has 1:1 ratio, my ram was running on 914Mhz, I didnt even have to increase the voltage from 1.9. Ran memtests, everything, and it was stable, no errors in Burnit tests either. Just that I had relaxed the timings to 6-6-6-15. I dont know if that effects performance much, as in all the benchmarks, the ram was giving awesome results, and rather expected, surpassing 800Mhz ram by alot of margin.
So what I want to know is that, is it normal for value ram to be overclocked this well? or is it my set of sticks? :D, plus is it safe if I dont have to increase the vdimm above 1.9, or lets say 2.0 If i go further?
Plus whats the point of buying 800 ram, or even 1066 if 667 Value ram can give such results, specially on such low voltages?

That's pretty incredible results with the RAM which is why people buy faster stuff..... if you want to go higher you obviously want RAM that is rated to do the speed you want, rather than hoping you get a good kit and can overclock it. No idea what voltages that RAM can take, but you should be okay up to 2.2v at least I would have thought. What are you calling acceptable temps? Get any screenshots?

Well as its value RAM, I would keep a close eye on the chip temperatures when you start pushing the voltages on it. It will only be designed for 1.8V after all. Many performance RAM brands have big heatsinks (or heat spreaders at the very least) and demand 2.1V. My OCZ RAM has a heatpiped heatsink per stick and is still under warranty to 2.2V.
As your value RAM seems to be performing so well, I'd be careful pushing it to its limit voltage-wise because if you fry it you might not get as good results again!
But yeah, other than that - damn! I can't push my kit over 3.4GHz without trying a bit harder, and then no further than 3.6GHz without serious issues. You got yourself quite a lurvely overclock there, sir.
That said, you have relaxed your timings fairly significantly - I was trying to keep mine as tight as possible (3-4-3-12), but if the benchmarks say that its worth the extra FSB at the cost of the timings, then go for it!

Ya, all everest benchmarks, Passmark Performance tests, all are giving awesome scores, I would post some screenshots, but I dont know how to post pictures? Photobucket?

I use photobucket. Just save your screen(s) and upload them. Copy the URL that they give you for your pic, and then in a post click the "insert a picture button" and paste it into the dialogue box provided.
