    Want to upgrade my CPU

    I've had my current system for a couple of years, so thought that since my motherboard takes some higher spec CPUs, I might as well look if a cheap upgrade is possible which will make a notiable difference to performance.

    I've got a ASRock 939NF4G-SATA2 board, with a Athlon 64 3200+ processor, single core.

    I'd like to go dual core, and preferable spend as little as possible. Can anyone suggest a cheapish replacment which will speed things up noticably?

    Second part of my question...I looked at the following URL which lists compatible CPUs for my board;

    CPU-Upgrade: ASRock 939NF4G-SATA2 cpu support and features

    All the CPUs list part numbers...however, when I look on ebay (for example) for a CPU, I can find loads with suitable spec which matches the compatibility list...but the part numbers are not the same. Doe this mean that I need to buy a CPU with the exact same part number as those listed in the compatibility list?

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Want to upgrade my CPU

    I dont know much about AMD, but reading from the webpage you reffered,

    "Part numbers are not supplied by motherboard manufacturers. We use best guess approach to determine part numbers based on CPU model, frequency and features. In some cases our guess may be incorrect or incomplete. Please always verify part numbers before committing to buying the CPU."

    What I understand is that part numbers are important, since that page also rules out incompatible CPU models with reference to part numbers. Hope this helps, lets wait for someone else to show up and save the day

    Re: Want to upgrade my CPU

    I managed to pick up a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2.2 GHz (ADA4200BVBOX) on eBay for £50.....all the more satisfying as I won it in the last 5 seconds

    Anyway, hopefully this will be a worth while £50....im glad to finally be dual core!
