Which quality corded mouse for PC?
I want to upgrade my trusty old MS Intellimouse. The casing has yellowed a bit over the years so it doesn't fit in with my new PC system at the moment - it will be given to someone else as there's nothing functionally wrong with it. It's an optical mouse with a quality feel to it. The weight is just right and it glides nicely over my desk.
I bought another Intellimouse for my work laptop recently and was hugely disappointed. It felt cheap, the wheel was very notchy and it lacked the weight of my 4-year old Intellimouse.
I'm after a mouse that has a solid, heavy feel to it, is not designed specifically for right-handed people (i'm left-handed but use the click buttons as if I was right-handed!), has a very silky feel to it when using it on a desk surface and is less than £50. So far the Razer Copperhead mouse is on my shortlist. Any others I should consider?
Re: Which quality corded mouse for PC?
Logitech G5. I have one and I'm considering another because I got the original which only has one thumb button and I prefer two.
It has an adjustable weight cartridge which on the surface just looks rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishy but you can put as much or as little weight in and make it as weighty as you want.
It's got PTFE (teflon to the unwashed masses) feet so even if you've got a bit of sandpaper for a mousemat it'll still be smooth. It also has a braided cover over the cord which means it doesn't get tangled as easy and it tends to be easier to manage the cable on the desk.
You're requirements (in my mind) pretty much spell out the specs for the G5.
Re: Which quality corded mouse for PC?
G5 is designed for r/h like most logitech gaming mice.
razer mice tend to cater better for l/h altho i think the death adder as for r/h.
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

Just to clarify, I use the mouse with my left-hand but still use the buttons in a 'right-handed' fashion (i.e. left button for normal click, right button for right-click). I hope that makes sense!
Hence the Logitech G5 has to be ruled out as I wouldn't be able to hold it properly in my left hand.
[Edit] Because of the way I use my mouse, having extra buttons on the side causes havoc!

Ah OK :) My bad!
Re: Which quality corded mouse for PC?
I find my Saitek GM3200 perfect. Nice and heavy, PTFE feet, very responsive - the 3200dps mode whizzes across the screen! Did use the Microsoft Habu Razer thing for a while... but it was far too light even and felt sluggish!

Missed this in the typing.. the GM3200 has a couple off thumb buttons high on the left side... May not be suitable.
Re: Which quality corded mouse for PC?
I have a Razer Copperhead and its great, symmetrical so should offer no problems for use in the left hand. It has side buttons but I have never pressed them in error and they can be disabled in the Razer software if this was an issue.
I would say it is slightly heavier than the MS Intellipoint optical mouse I have on my other system, and it has the PTFE feet etc so it glides nicely. The is an upgrade kit available for the Copperhead which allows you to alter the weight but this costs ~£10 I believe and voids your warranty although it is supplied by Razer.
The hardest choice is going to be picking which colour you want to get!

Just ordered the red one from Play.com. Thanks for the input.

Thought about repainting the intellimouse? I like these mice, I use one as a back up/change. They have a decent dimpled surface that will let paint adhere to them if cleaned up properly. Another use for Isopropyl Alcohol.

My old Intellimouse also went a shade of yellow, not very attractive.
Although it's obviuosly too late now as you've ordered the copperhead, I would have recommended a Logitech MX610 for left-handed use. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the drivers would have allowed you to setup the buttons in a right-hand configuration so you'd have the best of both worlds - left-handed ergonomics with right-handed buttons.

I'll check that one out too. I'm not bothered about ordering a second mouse. I'm one of those people that will spend more money on the bits that I interact with all the time (like chair, desk, lighting, monitor, keyboard and mouse) and less money on other bits of my PC environment. At my age, you need all the ergonomic support you can get!
