    New Fan

    Hi,

Basically I want a new fan to try and keep my graphics card cool. Have have an 8800GT, but im starting to get a bit concerned about the temps (the other day it was getting up to 91C, during a game of crysis) just want to try and keep it as low as poss.

    Any recommendations for another fan?

    Cheers

    Dan

    Re: New Fan

Dan, chances are that the fan profile in the bios is set so the fan only goes to 85% or 100% speed when the temps are very high, I did hear someone mention once that you may need a bios update as it's a known issue with the GT model.

Try doing a search on these forums as im sure it was covered only a couple of days ago. I dont have the GT so i cant really help any further.

You might also have a look at rivatuner, it also allows you to control at what temp the fan speed changes but be careful, software control over fan speed is not really a good idea incase the software crashes or glitches it may not keep the fan speed high enough. Ive used it without any probs but it can be a royal pain to configure. Bios profiles are the best as they work internally to the card.

OK cheers for the help, so the best way to do it is to adjust the fan speed in the bios.

2 questions, how do i get into the GPU bios and how do i update the bios? (I really dont have much of a clue about GPU's)

    cheers

    Re: New Fan

ref the BIOS question, look up Nibitor nvidia bios editor from mvktech and check their forums; they'll also have the flashing stuff (nvflash). Be ready with a DOS boot floppy (or USB stick) and have a PCI video card handy in case it all goes bad....
I'm using RivaTuner myself to crank up the fan speeds during gaming - previously I saw 90 deg C at peak; now the fan can hit 90% or even 100% and the temps max out at 75 deg C. Noisy though! Can anyone say 3rd party cooler?

    Re: New Fan

Thanks for all the replies, i decided to keep away from the bios / new fan and went with RivaTuner to adjust the fan speed, works a treat!
