I have a Logitech See link which works well for me. I like the thumb ball as opposed to the centre one - it means I can still have a wheel.

Not cheap at around £22 and even more for the cordless version.

    Re: optical trackball mouse?

Yes, I've had one of these for nearly 4 years now. The only downside for me is that my fingers are too big to use it as a 3-button mouse, but it works well.
Not really worth installing the Logitech drivers unless you need them, especially as there are some dubious 'freebies' included - so worth doing the customised installation.
The size is very good for reducing the risk of RSI, as are position and a particular excersise.

Another vote for the Logitech - I use the Marble trackball - not sure if the model I use is still available, but it is excellent.
