just picked up my first intel based chipset board in goodness knows how, anyway, msi neo2-fr p35 chipset, what is the general thinking on safe volts to the p35 chipset, this is on passive/active air cooling

I have this board. I am running 1.55v through the cpu on watercooling but on air I wouldn't go over 1.45v really and the temps really need to be below about 65c on load.
Core i7 860 @ 4ghz

Thanks for the input, voltages on the chipset, especially the NB is what I am after
I've got an Abit IP35 and have had the northbridge running at 1.55v without any problems, didn't seem to get very hot.
1.60v on the Northbridge is the max I would go.

My system is not totaly stable without 1.61v going through the NB when I'm running my memory at above 500MHz (1000 DDR) with a 400Mhz or higher FSB, unless I really losen some sub timings.
My system can pass 24+ hours of prime, complete hundreds of loops of memtest86+, and run most games and video benchmarks for hours or days on end, down to the lowest voltage I can set (1.3v). However, certain tests (ATiTool's artifact scanner, with prime95 running simultaneously) and a hand full of games (S.T.A.L.K.E.R maxed out) that really stress the northbridge need the 1.61v.
I've been running this voltage for months with the stock passive heatsink on my DFI Infinity P35. However, I'm using a Zalman 7700Cu (with 5 fins cut off to allow it to fit ont he CPU with the NB heatsink there) and about 20% of it's airflow (15cfm or so) passes through the NB chipset. It's about 15-20C cooler (barely warm to the touch) with this air flow at 1.61v than it is with the air flow from a stock intel cooler at 1.3v (hot enough to remove finger prints).
With good air cooling, I'd say 1.65v should be safe for the long term. Any more than 1.7 or so and you'd probably want sub-ambient cooling if you were to run 24/7.

Thanks guys, the heatpipe solution while it looks alright, I have never been a fan of them, I have some thermalright coolers.@ atmadden what are you using to measure system temp, not cpu temp, can't seem to get any program to pick up the sytem temp, and in the bios there is nowhere I can see to change the memory to 1t, it defaults to 2t, oh yes, the 4 pin molex above the graphics card slot, are you using it?

I think you can only set the RAM command rate on Nvidia boards.

The command rate is at 2T on my P35 board, I tried changing it to 1T but it was still showing as 2T.
I just had a search on google and it seems that P35 boards can be unstable with 1T timing set and some don't support it at all.
Thanks, I had googled p35+1t and got nothing definite, couple posts stating that p35 does not support it and some asus p35 does, I would have thought there would have been some better hits, buy hey my googling aint the best. So all you p35 users are all running 2T
I'm fairly certain that T1 is not even supported on any current Intel DDR2/3 chipset.
