£300 budget laptop?
Hi, I'm looking for a decent laptop with the maximum budget of £300. The laptop want be used for anything to demanding. Mainly browsing the net and handling a few word/office files.
Ideally (if possible these days) i would like to get XP over Vista.
Also built in wireless would be a bonus but i imagine most new laptops would have this.
Any suggestions? :D

Re: £300 budget laptop?
Your best bet would be to look at the dell vostro range, they're very competitively priced, for what you want to use it for you wouldn't need much more than a single core processor and a gig of ram. Also dell still offer xp on their systems.

Re: £300 budget laptop?
Thanks for the reply kasavien.
Well if I'm 100% honest its for my older sister, she asked me to look into getting here one. She wants to get involved with using the internet while keep and maintain a few records/word files for work.
Single core would be sufficient also a gig of ram would be perfect especially if i can get xp on there. I will have a gander on Dells site now

Re: £300 budget laptop?
I realise that my love of the EEE is my reason for recommending it... but I will again. Just can't help myself.
I'm personally waiting for the second generation EEEs, but with the current generation at £220 (+£50 for XP) they're brilliant and meet the criteria you specified.
The RAM is easy to upgrade as well, and wont void your warranty in the UK.

Re: £300 budget laptop?
Looks ok but not sure. Ive personally never heard of them till now.
There must be a bargain somewhere especially with many stores still undergoing the January sales.

Re: £300 budget laptop?
Definitely one of the Dell Vostro's, I've been buying lots of these for people recently and they seem rather decent for the price; you also definitely get a lot more for your money. If you check around for codes you can probably get one for <£250.

Re: £300 budget laptop?
Alternative to the one posted by godsdog here. Same spec by the looks of it, but with the new Gemstone design if you prefer that (think I'd prefer the one godsdog posted, but aesthetics are a matter of opinion
I guess). Bought a couple of these for colleagues, and they're nice enough.
//edit: Dell are doing a special offer at the moment with free 'delivery' on their Vostros on orders above £300, but that's excluding VAT unfortunately (and 10% off too). Still, you can get a very nice dual-core with 2GB and just fill the spec up for what you want to get above the £300ex. Pushes you up to the £360 mark, but you get a much nicer laptop for it.
