Right, what's the cheapest tb to get? 4x250? I don't want it right now, around summer time, I just want to know whats going on. Cheers!

Took me a couple of nods of the head to realise what he was talking about, too. Komplett have some pretty good prices on hdds, but I'd guess there'd be another reduction in prices before the summer period. So you're really better off waiting until then.

ahhh a terabyte. i was thinking throughbred! hmmm. i assume that 4x 250gig drives would be the cheapest.

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=45013

    maybe those.

why do you need 1tb of storage anyway?

if i were you however id get as fast and high a quality as i could afford. This way you could use the HDD for years to come.

oh i disagree completely. if you need a terabyte, chances are you are going to be using it mainly for storage - unless its for server purposes of course.

if the former, i would probably prefer a NAS system - so probably take a small, low powered system and cram with it with a few discs in RAID5. IF you are only concerned in price, go for 120gb/160gb drives - price per gb is less than with larger drives.

8 * 120s should suffice - that would probably be possible with 2 ATA controller cards.

plus, higher disk densities & speeds lead to more failures. nobody in my house has lost a 5400rpm drive, lost a few 7200's
