    Question Intel X48 motherboard availability?

Does anyone know where (or when) I can buy an Intel X48 motherboard, preferably this one:

    MSI X48C Platinum DDR2 and DDR3

    global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1393&maincat_no=1

    Thanks,

    Dom

I'm curious as to why anyone would want a board which has both DDR2 and 3.

It's not as though you can use both types concurrently, and the spec would suggest you're using DDR2 to start off with and maybe upgrading to DDR3 later. However, by the time DDR3 becomes more mainstream and justifiable wouldn't you be looking to upgrade the board again anyway?
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

scaryjim: 10" is just a little large to hold comfortably in one hand, which makes it a lot harder to tap, swipe and generally interact with.

I agree. There is no real reason to pay the huuuuuge premium for DDR3 at this point in time.

    Re: Intel X48 motherboard availability?

Thanks for the replies thus far.

The main aim is to get a chipset that OFFICALLY supports a quad pumped FSB of 1600 which will give me bags of overclocking headroom for a Q9450 (which has a 1333mhz FSB). X38 supports 1333mhz oficially, some mfr's support 1600.

Later on down the line I'll be replacing 4GB of DDR2 (2x sticks) which currently costs about £65 for some DDR2 PC6400 (800mhz) for some spiffy all singing and dancing DDR3 sticks that clock at 1600Mhz.

The MSI X48C - looking at eclipse computers prices, isn't that much more (about £20) than the Foxconn X38A (bad experiance with that bouight - we bought one but it was D.O.A. wouldn't even POST. That, and the X38A mobo's heatpipe was in the way of the £245 8800GTX that we got from scan and the thus heavy card didn't clip into the PCI-E socket...)

My buddy has sent back his X38A and ordered the X48C from eclipse computers, i think they (eclipse) have been around for a while, they didn't have the X48 boards in stock but told my buddy it should arrive by the end of next week (!) I personally don't believe that will be the case as I've been unable to find anyone else listing any X48 motherboards, much less have them by the end of next week. Still, we'll see...

If anyone sees any other companies selling X48 boards please post links here!

As for replacing the board again soon, no. the idea is to get a board now that I won't have to change for two years. In that time I might expect to upgrade that ram, graphics cards and hdd's (Think SSD's) but not the board or Q9450 CPU.

    Re: Intel X48 motherboard availability?

As you found out I wouldn't trust that eclipse actually have an X48 in stock - they don't have the greatest of reps..

Intel supposedly is holding back X48 release because Asus has too much stock of X38 & wants to shift those before X48 obsoletes it ...

    Re: Intel X48 motherboard availability?

after looking on morecomputer's website it seems they have expected dates of the 25th and 29th of Jan for two gigabyte x48 motherboards and 5/2/2008 for the asus formula rampage board.

so maybe, just maybe eclipse will deliver the MSI one next week.

Personally I wouldn't go with an MSI motherboard but that's just me.

Anyone else find the similarities in posts suspicious? Similar join dates, same writing style, same name. Same IP perhaps? Am I being paranoid?

    Sorry to make you paranoid.

I only added my name at the bottom, because I don`t meet many other Doms.

However, if Hydrasworld lives in Plymouth, I too might be affeared.
