Hi, well obviously the only parts you would change to make the same machine but AMD would be the motherboard and the CPU.
There are much cheaper MATX options for the board (from both AMD and Intel) however I have picked that one for its brand, performance and upgradability.
I could build the system cheaper however am happier sticking to what I know (Intel).
As i mentioned, a thread comparing AMD vs Intel is pointless, as there is no right answer, its one of opinion and therefore 50 posts highlighting advantages and disadvantages isnt overly constructive LOL.

if by semi decent onboard gpu on AMD means 690g - iwouldn't bother, granted games will actually work but you will be playing on 848x480 with settings on low to get any decent frame rates.

That's not true though. Intel is by far the better choice for a high end system as it simply pisses all over AMD's offerings with greater overclockability and speed. However, AMD has always brought better price / performance budget solutions than Intel at the lower end. It's not a discussion, it's just how it's always been. Fair enough you've made your mind up but AMD has always been the budget choice because at low prices they have better bangs for bucks than Intel.
