Price check please on G. Skill DDR 3200 2GBZX

Hi, I still have a kit of these to sell after upgrading.

They are a 2x 1Gb dual channel set and capable of the following frquencies:

    400 Mhz @ 2-3-2-5
    500 Mhz @ 2.5-3-2-5
    550 Mhz+ @ 3-3-2-8

Very nice sticks and quite possibly the best DDR1 around, and backed by G skill's lifetime warranty (they never ask for proof of purchase as long as the heatspreaders havnt been removed which would damage the warranty sticker).

They are also extremely rare now and cant be purchased anywhere now. They get a vista score of 5.7 when overclocked.

I priced these at £79.99 on ebay and accidentally put a bid option as well, not realising that bids cancel the buy it now. While my CPU (4400+ for £79.99) and Mobo (Asus A8R32-MVP deluxe for £69.99) sold on buy it now in under 3 hours, my ram had 3 watchers, 2 bidders, but no one willing to pay the £79.99.

Now I am aware that these are pricey kits, and they are far superior to just about any other DDR1 available. Are they still worth £80 or am I asking for too much?

£80 seems cheap for that to be honest. Even the basic 2GB matched pair DDR is going for £70 - £80 atm. Ok it's new but that doesn't make it good

Re: Price check please on G. Skill DDR 3200 2GBZX

I thought so, I believed £80 = instant sale. But out of 5 people, none were interested.

They originally cost me £170, but my new ram was cheap DDR2 at £42 a pair, so I'm not bothered selling them for £80 as I would make back the cost of my new ones.

But as a DDR1 to DDR2 comparison, these sticks are the equivalent of G. Skills PC8000 HZ which does 1000 Mhz @ 4-4-4-5 and sells for £140 for just 2 gig!

I would have got them, but my £42 sticks hit 1000 Mhz with 4-4-3-5, they just dont go any higher

    The cheap stuff was good

Ive have retracted them from Ebay, and am waiting for 100 posts to see if any enthusiasts like myself on Hexus would like them.

I managed to bench them at 570 Mhz 3-3-2-8 for the 5.7 vista score, but I only ran them at 500 Mhz for normal use which was 5.6 on vista. They are Super PI 32m stable and have never ever BSOD'd or crashed in two years at 500 Mhz 2.5-3-2-5, 2.75v.

You can probably guess why Im a huge G. Skill fan and am only going to buy their ram from now on

I just did a bit more reading on this ram and it turns out that 2.6 - 2.75 is the stock voltage, so they actually overclock to 500 Mhz on stock volts. I always thought I were adding extra volts to them. I used 2.9v at 570 Mhz while playing around, but this was only done for benching as I really didnt want to fry them.

My current modules are rated for 2.1v. I ran them at 2.3v for the 1000 Mhz overclock and thought they were fine. I opened my case to check their temps, and ouchies my fingers burnt :x.

Ive dropped them down to stock 2.1v and they work fine at 900 Mhz. Im not too keen on overvolting for daily use, just for testing. They also do 800 Mhz with 3-3-3-5 timings at 2.4v, but I think they would end up toasted running them that high all the time

    Crucial 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 CAS3 184pin DDR Memory Dual Channel Kit (CT2KIT12864Z40B)

    Crucial Cas 3 = £72!

    So yea, £99.99 for mine?

I'll try and sell these on a forum, they are too good for the average plebian on Ebay

Re: Price check please on G. Skill DDR 3200 2GBZX

I've got exactly the same kind of memory and in my experience they don't overclock anywhere near as well as you suggest. They are fantastic for low speed/low latency operation (why I got them) but they're pretty poor overclockers. What volts did you have to use to get 275mhz out of them?

I wouldn't pay more than £60 for them personally - they are g.skills value ram remember, and yours are used, overclocked and definitely not new.

Re: Price check please on G. Skill DDR 3200 2GBZX

Thing is, lack of supply does not necessarily mean high demand. Look at the price of the G80 GTS (especially 640MB). Here's a quick Google. E-tailers can to some extent hold stock for the odd chance that someone really wants one (and will pay for such 'rare' goods). You could too, but the sale of one item is probably worth more to you than them.

For £100 (or even £80), I can get a good DDR2 motherboard like the IP-35 (£65) and 2GB of RAM (£20). Sure, it won't be premium RAM, but the difference between the tightest timing/highest clock versus the most relaxed setting/standard clock is probably closer to 5% than 10%. I'd have to be really desperate not to buy a cheap Core Duo not to pick that option instead.

The problem you are encountering is the very reason why I look so hard for 'bang for buck' and avoid components of high premium these days (e.g. Raptor, premium RAM etc.) - they are lose much of their premium once they are facing obsolescence. To answer the question, I would not pay more than £60 for it either (that that would be impulse buy - the more time I am given to think about it, the less I am likely to go for it).

I think it was 2.85-2.9v for 275 Mhz operation. 285 mhz was just about able to boot and bench but that was its limit. I really should have taken screenies but this was over a year ago when I stressed them. It also depends on your motherboard as well.

As for the price, even if they are used, they are still backed by G. skills warranty. A cas 3 set currently costs over £70, and people do buy these, but I am definately sure £80 should have been an easy sale for these.

On stock volts of 2.75v they have been running at 2.5-3-2-5, 500 Mhz perfectly (200 Mhz ram clock, 250 Mhz FSB).

But I'm not selling them for under £80. hello, lifetime warranty?

O.o, and they are NOT G. Skills value ram, it was £164 on release which isnt really value. It was just far better priced then Mushkin Redlines which was the other high end brand at the time and priced over £200. At the same time my Geil 2x512 2-2-2-5 PC3200 BHX modules which were the best 512 meggers around cost £99.99 brand new and I sold two pairs at £80 each, hence the G.skill was a free upgrade.

But I will get £80 for them I'm certain.

Re: Price check please on G. Skill DDR 3200 2GBZX

Well, 2GB Crucial are selling for £40-60 inc. on Ebay, some of them new (and they also come with lifetime warranty). There is no telling how many of those OcUK have been selling at £72. The stocks may not moved in the last few weeks. Maybe you will sell them for £80. But I am kind of putting a question marks as to who would pay a premium for old premium products. From an enthusiast point of view, a DDR system is likely one that will either be retired soon, or used as a secondary PC - I may consider adding some RAM, but only if it's cheap. Personally, I am shocked at the current price of DDR memory. And non enthusiasts probably can't make the difference between memory timings anyway.

Yes they are. I just saw a used Crucial 2Gb set at £42. The thing is it is 3-3-3-8 @ 400 Mhz though.

But heres a 1 gig crucial set for a lot more then what I'm charging:

Oh, and my sticks have been put up again:

    Talk about false advertising!

"best 2 Gb dual channel DDR1 memory available"

LOL. Check out the reviews - they are G.skill's value ram. Just because they put shiney spreaders on them doesn't make them a premium product

FWIW.. I sold my GSkill PC4000 2GB kit here for £60 inc..

was good for the sake of the forum and its members..

If I was selling it on the bay, those PC4000 sticks would easily do £90-100..

That the HX series? That's more like a premium set of ram from G.Skill.
