    HD-DVD Playback Problems

    I have a HD-DVD/Blu-ray drive inmy HTPC

    The HTPC is...

    AM2 3800+ X2
    2GB RAM
    Vista Ultimate
    ASUS 2400 Pro

I have Power DVD Ultra fully updated and ATi drivers fully updated.

I put Transformers into the HD-DVD drive and it will play full HD, if I then press stop and later try and play the DVD again (be that after a reboot or not) then the HD-DVD starts to play gets up to the part where it check for HDCP (I know this becuase I have used none HDCP drivers to see where it checks for HDCP) and just crashes the system. No BSOD, no sounds just puts the screen to sleep as if there is no input and I have to hard reset the system.

If I uninstall PowerDVD Ultra and reinsatall it works th first time and then after that the same thing happens. I Don't have any other Blu-ray or HD-DVDs at the moment to check if its just this disk.

Have you tried the Cyberlink HD-DVD-BD advisor to see if it flags anything on your system?

Also, what about trying the intro version of Arcsoft Total Media?

all green apart from the CPU , that is yellow.

Funny enough I am downloading that right now.

tested spider man on Blu-ray. I see the spider logo for a spit second and thats it.. it just sits there not doing anything.

    Re: HD-DVD Playback Problems

    update

Arcsoft plays Spiderman no problems 1920 x 1080 MPEG-4 AVC

and also Transformers at the same output.

So Arcsoft is playing HDCP Blu-ray and HD-DVD no problems.

Looks like a mixture of Vista x86, ATi Drivers and Power DVD not getting along.

    PS

As this is the first time I have had HD really running..... WOW!

You've got 2 good titles there for shwoing off the PQ too.

Glasd Arcsoft worked out for you. PDVD is notorious for being a buggy P.O.S. but to be fair, Arcsoft is new and is not yet perfect.

It runs like a charm for me, but I've seen others having major issues with it.

my ATi 2400 Pro doesn't like menus but I think thats because the hardware acceleration doesn't work correctly in Arcsoft at the moment.

Their test bed ssytem was using Nvidia cards so yeah, I think that's why. The newer version thats out soon should have better support.

    Re: HD-DVD Playback Problems

is there a date for that?

Also is it best to set my video card to output to the TV at 1280 x 720 and allow the TV to scale it to 1366 x 768 or just set the video output to 1366 x 768?
