127 off each master port I do believe

so you are looking at 4 or 6 times that on most motherboards as i think each port is a master port.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

Have you looked to see how much P&P is (you need to create an order - but don't have tp proceed with it) - it may be less than you think - especially for a small order that can be sent by post.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

I don't want to have an ugly HUB sticking out from the back of the PC, when I have a perfectly decent pci card.

I'd still be happier purchasing from a retailer I trust, that I have used previously.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

I tghink all the options have been covered (and a few additional ones ) and they are

    1. A large and expensive PCI extender (Overkill really)

    2. A separate hub that plugs into an existing USB port and you plug your USB devices into that (cheap, redily available and the hub can be remote from the PC so it can be more convenient to use - no scabbling round the back of the PC)

    3. A PCI-E to PCI card that allows you to use youe existing card - with the only supplier found in France (Have you tried Googling for any other suppliers btw - on that part number or a generic description?) which is 'neater' and possibly gives you a bit of additional speed (which you may not notice in practice) and additional expansion capabilities (you could plug a hub into each of those outlets)

So it is really now down to you to decide what to do.... only you know what you can live with!

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

I got 2 more (admittidly stupid) options for you since you don't like the ones already said....

Buy a new graphics heatsink and fan that only takes up 1 bay, so you can use the one under your graphics HS&F.

    OR, the more stupid suggestion:

Make loads of small wires and solder them from the PCI port onto the card... or to make it neater, cut off the bottom of an old PCI card, and the port from an old motherboard, and solder wires between them.

But, to be blunt, you were pretty stupid to have bought it without checking you had a spare port for it.

I think your best option is to use a USB hub and sell your PCI USB card on ebay.

Also, I'm curious to know; what is it you use all these USB ports for????? - you must have..... what was it... 6 on the external of the card? plus your mobo must have at least 2, more likely 4 on modern mobos? and 2 internal on your card... + the mobo would have at least 2 internal anyway?... 14 USB?????

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

Originally I planned to install a watercooled heatsink for the graphics card, which would have enabled me to install the card (but when I ordered it, the order was cancelled by the retailer who told me that the item was no longer being sold).

Modifying the pc is this way is a no go area, that's a pretty dangerous thing to do to a PC worth £3,500.

Like I said, I don't want to sell my current USB PCI card as it has the most USB ports available on any card.

I have a printer, scanner, bluetooth adapter, infrared receiver, webcam, mouse, external hard drive and graphics tablet attached. Two usb ports are on the top of the case, which has a lid (I like to keep closed). One is on the front of the case, which has to be closed so that I can reach the desk in order to type.

The rest are spare expansion slots in case I need them. I usually have people come up and attached their devices so I need free slots, I've had external hard drives (as well as my own), file transfer cables etc attached.

Directhex, due to the fact that the case is so big, the PC is as close to the wall as it can be without keeping the air trapped inside the case, so there is no space behind.

Side note: Including P&P, the item from france costs £47.53.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

If I could find something similar to the watercooling block for the graphics card, which would enable me to use the other pci slot then that would probably be the best solution.

Anyone know of anything that would do the trick for my graphics card?

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

A USB hub will run a printer, scanner, bluetooth adapter, infrared receiver, webcam, mouse and graphics tablet perfectly fine with no noticable difference in performance. However for an external HDD you might want to plug it in to it's own controller for maximum transfer speeds, but you're obviously not too bothered about HDD transfer speeds anyway since you're using them on USB, eSATA is the way to go - but that's ANOTHER PCI(E) slot!

So I still think a hub is your best option. Plus you could use the mouse with an adapter in the PS/2.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

Even though I previously mentioned that I don't need the extra bulk, plus if I have a hub all the wires will be sticking out making a mess (which is why it is important they connect to the back of the PC).

I have firewire ports, are those not faster than eSata (which I know nothing about)? I have no choice what type of connection I have from my external hard drive, as it is USB.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

I vote for a Pci-e card. I traded my Compro T-200 for a compro X700 because the owner didnt have pci-e and it's been much faster than before.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

I was looking at the Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK before. It says something about different fittings, which confused me.

    My Kandalf LCS:

Liquid Cooling System ‧All-in-one waterblock : For Intel BTX platform, P4 775 and AMD K8
    ‧Performance radiator :
    (A) Dimension of radiator : H 407 x W 120 x D 35 mm
    (B) Three 1300RPM 120mm fans
‧P500 liquid pump : Power DC 12V liquid pump (500L/hr)
‧Reservoir : Contains 350 c.c. of liquid capacity, easy to refill
    ‧Water tube : Transparent UV tube (3/8”) & industrial-grade
    rubber tube.

The GPU Water Cooling Block uses 1/4" instead of the standard 1/8" fitting, which means that I have to do what in order to make it work in my system?

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots

It requires fittings with a G1/4" thread (standard size for most water cooling but Aqua Computer seem to like G1/8" hence the need for clarification on Scans website) so you would require a pair of 3/8" barbs with G1/4" threads or whatever type of fittings you want to use eg. compression, push-to-fit etc.

Edit: Any of the barbs on this page would be suitable given the information you have provided
