Not enough PCI Card slots
Hello,
could someone please tell me what I would need to purchase in order to enable me to install a PCI TV Tuner (that I have already purchased) when I do not have enough free PCI slots (my graphics card takes up two, I have a USB hub installed and a soundcard).
Thank you.

Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
remove the USB card and get an external powered hub.

yea only way, unless you want to buy a new mobo?
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
or send the TV card back andget a USB one.
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
You could just return the PCI TV card and swap it for the USB version.
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
Hauupaaaaage PCI cards are actually USB anyway I think - at least they have USB drivers.
Weird that.

And that i because the microsoft BDA driver system won't allow two tuners on the same PCI ID. Which is rubbish. Some of the other dual tuners have one on PCI and the other has to be connected to an external USB port by a USB-A connector on the card. Now thats weird.
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
PCI-E TV Tuner cards are also fairly common now.

Is it? which one? :)
EDIT:Appologies to Oimi for the thead tangent
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
My earlier post was a little brusque - but basically there is no way you can add additional PCI slots to a motherboard, so the options are (as has been said)
Buy a new motherboard with more PCI slots on it (harder to do as PCI-E takes over - new mobos tend to have fewer PCI-E slots in preference to PCI-E)
Remove something you don't need to make space for it (The USB hub was suggested as you could use an external hub)
Buy a tuner that plugs into the USB port - you might exchange the one you have, or sell it on, although you may not get much for it
If your mobo has PCI-E, buy a USB PCI-E hub and use the space freed up for the tuner.
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
Another vote for a PCI-E tvtuner card.
I've got a leadtek tuner in a pci-e 1x slot and it's working quite well.
Re: Not enough PCI Card slots
Thank you for all your feedback and support.
Peterb and Oralpain, it sounds as though this is the best option for me. Could you please tell me where I can get a PCI-E USB Hub with 6 USB ports, like the current one I have? It has 4 external and 2 internal.
