Snap, that chip's given me reason to upgrade from S939... that and the stupidly low DDR2 prices.

yeah, I know what you mean.

I was thinking about why I actually want to upgrade again yesterday, after completing Crysis on my S939 Opteron 175 + 8800GT + 7800GTX three monitor box and struggled to find a reason other than "cos I want it"...

    Wait, I know, I know!

If I do it sooner rather than later my S939 boards and chips might still have a second hand value ;D

Yes, that /must/ be the reason.

Yup, thats as good a reason as any. I must resist the urge to do the same with some of my components...even if they've only been in use for a month...lol

I`d like to see Intel coming out with some definite dates on these Yorkfield Processors & put an end to the confusion. Is their business plan so flexible or does their market research indicate: Confusion = profit?

It's not like them to BS, its probably more likely a mistake.

How well will they overclock? I read somewhere I can't remember where that they will not be that good at overclocking.

Re: Q9450 available 5th Feb 2008? In stock anywhere yet?

The problem is the low multiplier though, QX9650 has an unlocked multiplier I think(?)

    Q9450 @ 8X450 = 3600mhz how much higher can you realistically clock a quad?

Although the Q9450 is more efficient than a Q6600 at the same speed in both work done and power consumed. On the other hand it`s more expensive to buy & memory speed demands may be higher (more expensive) as well, if it will allow overclocking above say 450mhz (obviously a lot of pc6400 will overclock up to these speeds).

Re: Q9450 available 5th Feb 2008? In stock anywhere yet?

Sorry, just read the Dabs review above. The person reviewing says that with H2O they managed 4.9 Ghz, which I reckon is a FSB of 610Mhz+. I have my hat in my hand, but I
will await the partaking of the delicacy for the time being, what is the highest FSB anyone has managed on a Quad? Could he be telling fibs? Or was it a QX9650?
