    Thermalright Ultima-90

What do people think of this cooler? Is it a good one as my mate has limited space in his case and this one fits. I see some have 90i in the wording. Is there a difference?

Ultima-90 is one of the very best

not sure of the difference if any..

If height is the restriction then this is quite good to but if it's width or depth then it will be too big.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

Just put the Ultima90 on a new build for my dad - stuck it on a quad core q6600 with a 120mm scythe sflex 1600rpm (full speed) - at idle (stock speeds, speedstep OFF, abit ip35) temps were around 32*c at the full 2.4ghz, load temps at 45*c....... I was pretty darn impressed to be honest, its very small compared to other coolers, but does excelllently As my rigs watercooled I wasnt expecting much of it for his pc, but was very suprised!

*edit* temps measured with CoreTemp - so theyre proper and accurate

    It's a peach of a thing

It'll easily take you to wherever you want to overclock to, just not right to the very outer edges like the Extreme can. Strap a decent 120mm fan on it and you're away.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

I have the same setup as Vrykyl used for his Dad (barring having the pro IP35). As I have the Quads at 100% usage pretty much 24/7 @ 3.6, then I can vouch that it works. And in my case the SFlex is as good as silent even at 1600 rpm.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

Get the ultima 90, not the 90i.

The ultima has the bigger heatpipes (like the 120 ultra extreme) iirc and cools better.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

You're confusing things. That would be the Ultra 90.

Thermalright's website makes no mention of the errant 'i', there's only an Ultima 90, so it seems to simply be an error in nomenclature that somehow has been perpetuated.

    Re: Thermalright Ultima-90

There was originally going to be two versions of the Ultima 90 - Intel and AMD. The Ultima 90i label originally stood for Intel.

They ditched it all at the last minute and decided to go with both fittings in the one product - the Ultima 90.

I got that from 'Bob' at Thermalright support when I asked about all this.
