4g/b Ram for C2Q build... your recommendations gentlefolk ?

    Hello folks,

I've drifted away from the PC technical side of things lately. Despie that, I'm sticking together a couple of new PC's soon, one for Media use in the living room, and a general purpose rig for upstairs. Both will likely have Intel Quad CPU's.

RAM seems to be ridiculously cheap these days, so I'd like to buy 2 sets of 4g/b. So whaddya all recommend ? Bearing in mind that I won't be overclocking at all, don't need lights or other gimmicks and just really want 2 boggo sets.

The OCZ stuff from Play in the bargain thread seems rather a good deal, but is there anything better ? I've had a looky, but my head is spinning, and I just wondered if any of you fine folks could separate the wheat from the chaff for a now fairly uninitiated buffoon like myself.

    Ta muchness

Simply put, unless you are overclocking, buy 4GB of whichever RAM is cheapest that runs at the correct speed for your chip (divide FSB by 2)

HAVE A LOOK AT THE CURRENT BARGAINS SECTION. RIGHT NOW IT seems (sorry forgot caps was on!) OCUK do incredible deals how about 2x2gb 800mhz cas4 for £65! thats 8gb for £130! i know you could do the maths buts i still needed to work it out to believe it! ok its easy to get carried away, i wont need 8gb for a long time, maybe not even 4gb!

also it seems OCUK isnt looked very favourable, any answers why?

Sorry about being a bit off topic but Freddie, if you noticed you were typing in caps why didn't you go back and change it?

Also, I agree Lucio get whatever is cheapest for the speed you need. From a decent manufacturer of course, they're all at bargain prices at the moment anyway.

Re: 4g/b Ram for C2Q build... your recommendations gentlefolk ?

Given the current price points then you should get 2x2Gb sticks rather than 4x1Gb.

OCUK aren't very popular for two reasons. First is that they often charge over the MSRP when they have stock that others don't. Good for an immediate profit but it doesn't build customer loyalty.

Second is that their support sucks if something goes wrong. I would use them only for items where that's unlikely (e.g. software) or you go back to the manufacturer for support (and this is often true for RAM).

    Yeah, i'm really looking for 2 sets of 2 x 2G/b.

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated, I'll probably just buy the cheapest big brand stuff I can find

Buying the boring stuff just feels so wrong though
