    fastest core 2 duo processor

    Hey, guys...
    im new to the world of building computers, and wanted sum advice on wat wud be the fastest processor in the intel core 2 duo range.
    im looking for at least 3GHz.

    E8400 Wolfdale meets your requirement (3Ghz exactly) or above if you don't intend to overclock for whatever reason (i.e. E8500, the E8600 should be released later this year).

    Yep the E8400 is the best at the moment. Seen them clock to at least 4.5ghz on air. The E8500 is a tad quicker at stock , but a extra 160mhz dos'nt justify the price hike.

    ok thanks...any idea when the E8500 or E8600 is coming out?
    and where can i find the E8400, cuz on scan, it says preorder...

    Scan only sold out earlier today (and they've been on 'today only' since Friday). Maybe they'll get more in very soon.

    Overclockers have plenty of the E8200, E8400 and a few of the E8500 in stock.

    Don`t the E8500 clock quite a bit higher, my understanding was that although at stock they`re only a little faster, speed-binning has meant that they`re more capable - still probably luck of the draw?
