12X dvd burning on the way

mmm was thinking of dipping toe into dvd burning waters when i just read this

Apparently LG are set to show off a 12x at Cebit....of course it could take ages for this product to get to market....and media is barely 8X yet....still bodes well for picking up bargains if speed gets ramped up quicker than the units are selling. 4X burner for £30 anyone?

12x will only be achieved with DVD+R media whereas DVD-R will be limited to 8x while DVD+/-RW will only be written with 4x. DVD-RAM will still be written with 3x (because of forced verify only 1.5x)

That's a bit of a shame, I kind of figured that we would be reaching the limits soon as a standard ide interface can't really guarentee the sustained data throughput required to burn a dvd at something like 20x.

I currently have a 4x pioneer (106) which are now stupidly cheap copared to when I bought it, and as the 107 is now out and at a very reasonable price ( ~£100) I think it's time to get one of those, as burning a dvd in 7 or 8 mins is brilliant.

The only problem I have with current dvd writers is their relatively poor cdr/rw burning speeds. The pioneer 107 has only just managed to reach 24xcdr/rw burning now, which I had a number of years ago.

I have a LiteOn 811s and that can burn CDs at 40x... one of the main reasons why I chose it over the other drives!
