Re: good places to buy from

LOW was/is quite good. Evesham went into liquidation (i think) recently but they seem to still be trading.

When I used them the customer service was very good via email.

    lowestontheweb
they often have very good deals but most of it isn't that great these days.

Dare I say.. Overclockers, service can be a bit flakey but i've never had a problem with them.

    KustomPCs
    Kustom PC's
lots of niche stuff and decent cases etc..

Never bought from here but lots of people have raved about them

Re: good places to buy from

I've bought from Scan, Komplett, Tekheads, Overclockers, Ebuyer, Dabs, Microdirect, Chilled PC, Eclipse computers, Gladiator computers, memory-configurator in the past, all without problem. I've got staffsMike's suggestions bookmarked as well as Aria and Novatech too. Play and Amazon sometimes have good deals sometimes.

I forgot about komplett. I have used them before, they were quite handy for having tonnes of stock and often have the things other retailers overlook in my experience.

Re: good places to buy from

I just used Novatech for my last order (~£700 worth of stuff) and I was very impressed, will definitely be ordering from them again. Free delivery on orders over £50 (I think), their stock system seems to work, everything was packed securely (nice to see a company taking care packing HDDs) and you can pick up from their stores which is a result, because we've been lacking a decent retailer in West London (Reading).

Have used Scan quite a bit over the past year and those are pretty much the only retailers I buy from if I can help it.

QuietPC have always handled my orders well: quick dispatch and I've found their staff actually try to be helpful (it's unfortunate that stands out). Prices can be a little on the high side but I find them excellent for less common items.

Re: good places to buy from

I usually choose Scan as first choice as their prices on standard retail stuff is pretty competitive (and free p&P!) If I need stuff in a hurry I'll use Novatech as they are local.

I have also used CCLonline - very good, OCUK (no problems, although others have) and I have used E-buyer once without problem. For Broadband bits and pieces I have used DSL-warehouse and broadbandstuff. Amazon are good for a quick look - they have some good prices sometimes,

RS components are good for networking hardware (but pricey) and Maplin have useful bits of hardware. I have also used Cable City for odd hard-to-find bits of hardware, thermal compound, etc.

I nearly always do a Google search on expensive items though to see what prices are like out there.

Don't forget the Hexus pages have lists of trusted retailers with buyer comments from the Hexus community.

Not that I would normally defend OCUK but I bought some of the cheapo OCZ memory from them on Saturday and it arrived this morning with standard 1st class postage!

I buy memory from them aswell i am ashamed to admit.
Scan have such a rubbish selection im forced to.

They are always cheapest for memory and i know if its wrong i can return to manufacturer rather than store aswell. Thats the only reason.

My experiences with returning items has certainly been better the last couple of years (although not perfect). They've pleased me with two things in particular:

    1. You can book a collection through their web site If you are returning a heavy or expensive item.

    2. I've returned two items, including an Asus EEE PC I decided was too noisy (not a fault per se because I've noticed it on others but not suitable for me), under the Distance Selling Regulations in the last 12 months. On both occasions they handled it swiftly and without complaint. Which OK is what they are supposed to do but I hear about lots of companies being awkward because, lets face it, how many of us would actually take legal action in the end?

I still prefer to use a few other places but, if they have a product at a good price, I certainly don't mind using them.
