Will it even run on that board?
    Is the bios update avalable?

Yes it will and yes it is, I checked because I'm thinking of doing something similar.

    Re: E6300 to E8400

If the motherboard supports it and with its 9x multiplier you should get 3.6 Ghz out of it quite easily. Will this be of any benefit to you, only you know. Other than video encoding very few applications need more processing power than a standard dual core.

    Re: E6300 to E8400

With a BIOS update it will accept the new 45nm CPU's. As is it worth it............Then yes, as speed is a essence and an addiction . (well to me anyway)

    Re: E6300 to E8400

Doesn't seem worth it to me. The extra speed will give minimal gains in games so unless you have another reason for the extra grunt I wouldn't bother.

Save the money and save up for the next gen cpu/ motherboards.

I'm still doing fine with my E4300. Gaming is far more GPU limited at the moment anyway.

    Re: E6300 to E8400

Intresting I have my E4300 at 3ghz was thinking of getting this chip but I would probably have to upgrade my motherboard as its an Abit AB9 quad GT which doesn't support the E8400, so if there's no real gains to be had I'll just keep the money in my pocket.

    Re: E6300 to E8400

There arnt any gains so to speak of, my e6300 is running on 3.0Ghz and goes up to 3.2Ghz, in benchmarks it beats both the Core 2 Extreme, X6800 and X6850 i think, so if you are running your e6300 at a similar clock speed, you wont see a difference, and as it is, its enough for gaming etc.
