New build - please check before I checkout!
Hi All,
So I've pretty much decided on:
- Intel C2D 8400
- Abit IP-35
- 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-18
- 500GB Samsung Spinpoint
- 512MB MSI 8800GT
- Logitech Cordless Desktop 1500 Rechargeable Mouse & Keyboard, USB
- 520W Corsair HX Series Modular PSU, ATX, EPS12V, whisper quiet, 5 year warranty
- Coolermaster RC-330 V2 Elite Black Midi Tower Case w/o PSU (New Improved Version)
- Samsung SH-S202N/BEBN 20x DVD±R, 16xDVD±DL, DVD + RW x8/-RW x6, PATA,Lightscribe, Black, OEM inc. Nero
- 22" Asus VW222S Black Widescreen LCD, 1680x1050, 2000:1, 300cd/m², 2ms, Speakers, VESA
It'll be used for all manner of stuff - I think it's reasonably well balanced?
Can someone confirm for me that the E8400 will work in the IP-35 out of the box?
Do I need to think about aftermarket CPU cooling?
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
Looks like a nice build.
The 8400 should be fine in the Abit out of the box. At worst it will need a bios update which I'm assuming you can download as you are posting this message ;)
I would probably go for the Antec Nine Hundred over the coolermaster but I'm sure its a perfectly good case.
If you want to overclock to 4.0GHz + which it seems that chip can do then I would look at aftermarket HSF's.
Thermalright ultima 90 and scythe ninja are the first (and last :D) places I would look.
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
Thanks for that. I can download a BIOS update, but I have no replacement chip to drop in to flash the mobo if I need to. Hence I really need to be sure I can plug and go.
Cheers...
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
If you are buying from a decent outfit then you will definitely be plug and go. My Abit IP35 Pro had the latest BIOS from the box. You should get the SH203 rather than the 202.
If you get an Ultima90, then get a Scythe SFlex1600 120mm fan to go with it.
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
120mm Xigmatek XSF-F1251 from Scan Computers UK or you can give that fan a whirl, comes recommended (still haven't tried it yet).
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
It is an awesome fan for sure especially given the money.
S-Flex feels of a higher quality but the results of the Xigmatek as far as I've seen in my mates PC live up to the impressive specs :)
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
Cool thanks for all the info guys....
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
Looks like it doesn't support 8x00 out of the box, and I don't have another 775 CPU to flash with... and I bought from Scan.. :angst::angst::angst::angst::angst:
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
i presume you have a computer which is able to use internet?( a spare that is), just jump on that and download the bios, either put on a floppy or something(read in manual as floppy was old way and not sure if they still use that)
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
Yeah, I have a few other PCs, but no other socket 775 CPUs, and I can't even get to the POST screen, it just constantly reboots, spins the fans for 6 secs, and then reboots.....
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
hmm, perhaps email scan about this, or post in there section just so they see it. Here is mainly for other people of the community to assist.
Hope your problem gets sorted.
Re: New build - please check before I checkout!
Are you sure you just aren't running into the double boot problem that occurs with that board? Try leaving it to cycle a few times
