why are there so many darn P5K motherboards... recommend me one
Ok, after purchasing another Core 2 chip I haev yet decided on a board to put it in..
ok, firstly I was pretty interested in a P35 board.. but there are so many of them, just ASUS alone have NINE models..
Other than the amount of SATA ports and some other bits they have, are they actually any different?
What about overclocking potential?
I need to get one soon, but the amount of boards around to make me decide is more puzzling than financial stochastics..
Re: why are there so many darn P5K motherboards... recommend me one
As you say, a lot of the variants (on the Asus nboards at least) are just additional features - some have firewire, some built in Wi-Fi some additional sound ports - details are in the detailed specs on the Asus web site. However not all are widely available (I guess retailers have the same trouble - why stock all 9?) byt generally in a series, the core the core board specification is the same. So its a question of seeing which board has the facilities you need/would like, then find a retailer that sells it - or fiond a retailer and see if the boards they stock meet your needs.

well, I saw the Abit dark raider coming off pretty cheap with stiff enough features..
I haven't been with Abit since the AV8 and AX8 days, are they still as reliable?
I've noticed they've dropped their uGURU stuff and went back to SoftMenu?

The IP-35 is a great board. Fantastic layout and has a good solid feel. I did a build with one a while back and the chap hasn't complained about it.
It can often be found for around £65 on scan today only which is a bargain.
You also get great support for them here on Hexus courtesty of an abit care forum
abit.care@HEXUS - HEXUS.community discussion forums
I don't mind asus but I will buy abit where possible.
P5K-E wifi is the one I would go with if you do want to stick with asus, seesm like a good balance of features.

IP-35 is a great board. All of Mike's points are correct, it is really easy to set up and use.

What's the difference between the IP35 Pro and the IP35 Dark Raider? I can't find any information about the Dark Raider on the Abit website.
Re: why are there so many darn P5K motherboards... recommend me one
It is the plain IP-35, in between the E and the Pro.
Re: why are there so many darn P5K motherboards... recommend me one
Heh, cheers, just realised that this moment when checking the manufacturer codes on Scan's website. :)
Re: why are there so many darn P5K motherboards... recommend me one
Yeah thh IP-35 dark raider.
The E has no RAID or Firewire and different chipset cooling
THe PRO has eSATA better chipset cooling, cmos reset switch and LED fault diagnosis, think thats about it. The IP-35 in the best compromise imo.

Chuffed to bits with my P5K-E, Wifi is excellent, HD Audio is fantastic, eSata is great to have.
Overclocking is very easy, installation was easy, and seems to complement an Antec P182 perfectly.
Reading the manual, there are SO many features on the board as well :O

Yeah, i must say I'm pressed with these Abit motherboards they have won me from Asus
