    Digital TV Tuners

Not bothered if its a pci card or USB. Any suggestions on actual models and the priority is it must work and the software as well.

Want to be able to record to HD as a pvr as well.

What reviews I have looked at seem to point out big faults.

    Thanks for any input/reviews.

    Re: Digital TV Tuners

If you want to record HD, then you need a card that supports DVB-S2. These are still fairly expensive. You will only be able to receve non encrypted programs such as the BBC, not anything you need a sky viewing card to watch.

    Perhaps something like a WinTV-HVR-4000 ?

I'm not really sre what the favourite cards are these days. A lot of them are virtually identical, all based on reference designs.

Software wise though, you don't have to stick to what is bundled with the card, you can use any number of free and open source TV recerder and media center type applications.

They are generally in a permenant Beta state, and some are better at some aspects than others. MediaPortal is a good on to look at on Windows.
