Any thoughts on Corsair HX620W PSU?

My trusty OCZ PSU went west on Friday. Having had problems with DFI mobos in the past (for the uninitiated, they are very finicky when it comes to PSU, especially the NF4 series) I've checked out the DFI forums and the Corsair unit was on their list.

That particular thread hadn't been updated for quite some time, so I thought I'd check for any horror stories before I split with my hard-earned.

    Mucho thanks in advance!

Re: Any thoughts on Corsair HX620W PSU?

It's good but a tad over-priced, I'd be tempted to get the 520W HX (also made by Seasonic) as it's more than enough for non-crazy use.

Re: Any thoughts on Corsair HX620W PSU?

The Corsair series PSU are OK.
Nothing spectacular but not bad either.
Power delivery is very good. Quality is average.
As it happens, the 620W is quite good value at the moment (under £80 iirc).

Personally i would still rather spend the extra £20 and go for one of the Enermax Infiniti's.
    The quality is outstanding.

Re: Any thoughts on Corsair HX620W PSU?

I have the 520HX (bought following various glowing ciomments on Hexus)

Pros - very quiet, not that expensive, modular, lots of cable options, beautifully packaged (!) good wrranty

Cons - disappointed at the modular cable quality (rather stiff, making routing harder than it need be. Not sure about claims under warranty in this country, surprised to find the -5V rail well out of tolerance (not really important - but still surprised)

Would I buy again? Maybe, although I might be tempted to try Seasonic next time.

I'm happy with my HX620 unit, it's quiet and does the job. Almost certainly paid too much for the name.

IMO its among the best, yes I do have one, and yes I might be bias

peterb, if you find the cables are stiff, warm them gently with a hair drier, they will become softer and easier to mould.

I agreed that the PSUs perform well...they do and there is no denying that.

The Quality of them, for a 'top end unit' though does leave a bit to be desired.

I beg to differ, but I guess there is no point arguing about it with you. Maybe it's true for the 620 Watt one, but the 520 Watt one is very good quality for the money.

Yes I do! Many thanks to those who contributed. The order has now been placed, and hopefully I'll be resurrecting my PC before the end of the week!

As far as quality goes, I'll reserve judgement for now. The power delivery from my OCZ unit was superb, but I doubt that the excellent gloss finish and heavy weight construction to the unit helped too much in that regard (or those silly little tuners to vary the voltage on the 12, 5 or 3.3 V lines!). As long as this one can supply my DFI board with enough juice so that it doesn't through it's dummy out of the pram every other time I reboot, I'll be ecstatic

Just because i dont agree, it doens't mean im arguing. Some think the Corsair PSUs are amazing, some dont.
    I dont!
Im giving you my opinion...the same as you are to me.
I have a 520 Corsair and it feels cheap compared to the Liberty (even thought the comparable Corsair is slightly more powerful). The cables also feel very flimsy and of 'not good' quality.

The 620W, if you can get it for under £80, is good value though. As is the 520W to be fair.
Value and quality are two very different things though and they do lack a bit of quality.

At the end of the day, they will run most rigs perfectly well.
    Exceptional PSUs though, they aren't.
