    Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

In a previous thread, Fishcake said:

    ----------------------
I've just got a 512MB Gigabyte branded 7600GS video card with passive cooling, and was wondering if there was any way of monitoring the temperature of the card? Are there usually temperature monitors built in to these sorts of cards?
I've got a couple of chassis fans in my case with a fan controller, and I want to turn the speed of the fans down a bit to reduce the noise, but I don't want to turn it down so much that the card gets too hot.
I don't want to have to buy one of those external thermometer things, but if it's something quick and easy to do, it would be nice to quieten down the system a bit.
If this is possible, what sort of temperature range should I be looking at? I don't do overclocking BTW
    ------------------------

    aidanjt responded:

"Your drivers should have a basic GPU temp display"

Note. I rather start a new thread, because the Fishcake one is a little old and seems to be "sewn up". (How does one ever know when a threat is closed?)

I am basically in the same situation as Fishcake, but while I had a GS card before, I now hav two nVidia 7600 GT cards with fans (two GS clunked out), and I want to be able to monitor their temperature, esp. the one in the same position as the old GS card, and esp. since I have the chassis fans set to "Optimum" (no more spin than necessary, although I just realize that I do not know at which temperature – of what? – the fans starts gearing up).

However, I do not know where to look in "the drivers" for the "basic GPU temp display" (whatever that is – a display in a driver?).

Could someone give me some hints on where to look for this? Also, does the 7600 GT cards have a temperature monitor built in? (Even I understand that no software in the world will measure their temp if there is no thermometer :-)

    Best regards,

    Hans L

Re: Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

Try Rivatuner it will provide you with a monitoring graph for the GPU temperature providing the is a sensor to read (which the should be).

Webby, Rivatuner seems to be such overkill for temperatue measurement, but if it is the only game in town, I will (try to :-) use it.

    Thank you very much!

Re: Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

Over kill maybe but if it does what you want then I can't see any problem in using it, the probably are other programmes out there that will monitor the temps but since I know that Rivatuner will do it made sense to recommend it.

Re: Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

It made a lot of sense, Webby. I was just a little overwhelmed. I have downloaded Rivatuner, and will install it and then make sure I have the latest drivers, and then use it.

    Again, thanks.

Re: Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

    Hi,

I've been after the same thing. I just downloaded the temperature sensor program from CPUID (CPUID), haven't tried it yet, but looks like it could be good. Apparently, it will give the reading from all installed sensors (temp, voltage etc. The other plus is its a small program that doesn't "install", just a .exe to run as and when you feel like it.

Will be giving it a try later today......

Re: Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

Sorry, what am i missing here?

Can't you just right click>nvidia control panel and look at the temp?
Downlaod Ntune from nvidias website and you can adjust the clock speeds and the speed of the fan from the control panel too.

Everest is the best way i have found to monitor card temps.

Re: Temperature monitoring of gaphics/video cards

Well, Andy, you are not missing anything. It is just that I did not know that it was that simple. So, you do *not* need nTune to measure the temps? I installed nTune (got a tip about it from somewhere else), and when I ran it for temp monitoring, the screen looked very similar to the regular nVidia control panel screen :-)

Now, Everest? What temps does it measure?

What I would like is an app that measures not only the GPU temps (I have two cards), but also the CPU temp (in the same window), and, preferably, the three temps should show up in the system tray so that I can keep an eye on them.

    Regards,

    Hans L

Daniel, can you tell us what it does in relation to this:

Okay, Blitzen, don't get bent out of shape. I will certainly check it out (I have downloaded it).

On page EVEREST Home Edition v2.50 (Final) download from Guru3D.com

    it says

    EVEREST Home Edition v2.50 (Final).

Do you know if that means that it is the last Home Edition, and that Lavalys will now only develop the Corporate Edition and the Ultimate Edition?
