I've just got a 512MB Gigabyte branded 7600GS video card with passive cooling, and was wondering if there was any way of monitoring the temperature of the card? Are there usually temperature monitors built in to these sorts of cards?
I've got a couple of chassis fans in my case with a fan controller, and I want to turn the speed of the fans down a bit to reduce the noise, but I don't want to turn it down so much that the card gets too hot.
I don't want to have to buy one of those external thermometer things, but if it's something quick and easy to do, it would be nice to quieten down the system a bit.
If this is possible, what sort of temperature range should I be looking at? I don't do overclocking BTW

Note. I rather start a new thread, because the Fishcake one is a little old and seems to be "sewn up". (How does one ever know when a threat is closed?)
I am basically in the same situation as Fishcake, but while I had a GS card before, I now hav two nVidia 7600 GT cards with fans (two GS clunked out), and I want to be able to monitor their temperature, esp. the one in the same position as the old GS card, and esp. since I have the chassis fans set to "Optimum" (no more spin than necessary, although I just realize that I do not know at which temperature – of what? – the fans starts gearing up).
However, I do not know where to look in "the drivers" for the "basic GPU temp display" (whatever that is – a display in a driver?).
Could someone give me some hints on where to look for this? Also, does the 7600 GT cards have a temperature monitor built in? (Even I understand that no software in the world will measure their temp if there is no thermometer :-)
Best regards,
