About LinkBacksHey all, I'm gonna be making the move to Intel / Quad at some point over the next few month so I just wanted to double check that my trusty Tagan would still provide enough juice.

hey hows it going. im guessin 480w should be more then enough - providing u got the general amount of other hardware connected. im running a quad core with a 380w psu, 1 gpu, couple of HD's, optical, FD, a few pci cards, fans etc, and never had a problem.
hope that gives u an idea.

it depends on whether you'll overclock it and also heavily depends on graphics card.
Do a little work out how much juice it all takes under load.
You don't really want to max out the psu % wise so adjust for about 85% of max.
It should be alright, but like I said if your gaming and putting in a 8800gtx then i'd rethink it!

Easy, hands down, without question, overkill even with overclocking.

Mines a 550 tagan and I've not had any issues with an overclocked Q6600 and 4 hard disks + an overclocked 8800GTX.....I think a lot of these Kw powersupplies are designed to generate extra sales more than anything else. Few people actually need them. I have a power meter attached to the PC and it doesn't get near 550Watts even with all this gear attached.

Yup 480 Watts is tons.No doubt about it - It'll be fine
A Q6600, for example, use 95 Watts of power. If you perform a 25% overclock and don't have to adjust the voltage much, then it'll go up to about 120 Watts.
If you had some insanely power-hungry graphics card, such as an 8800 GTX/Ultra, the max power it could possibly draw based on the power connectors is 3 * 75 Watts, which is 225W. In practice, these cards use more like 130 watts.
So that's ~250 Watts tops so far with really power-hungry components.
Add on an overestimate of ~100 Watts for mobo, RAM, disks, fans, and you're still only looking at 350 Watts...
It's actually quite hard to build a computer that draws more than 350 Watts from the PSU at peak load. Possible, but you've really gotta try.

Whey! Thanks all, that's just what I wanted to hear.
And for the record, oh you'd better believe I'll be overclocking it.
Just thought this may be of interest (since i plugged it in today) my at wall power meter on my system (only a duel core but OC) when folding only pulls 140w now my power supply is ~83% efficient at that load so the load on my PSU is only 115w required to run the system. Now it will obviously go up when playing games etc but it cant go up more than 150W as thats all that can be supplied by a PCIe slot and a 6 pin power.
My system ( <-- click left ) is running a with an Intel Q6600, and a Targan Easycon 480W PSU. I have not experienced any problems.
It is worth noting though, that I am not overclocking, and I only have a mid range graphics card (8600GT). I do have three hard drives though.
