Hi
I have a 600w power supply that i was hoping to keep after an upgrade. it is a bit older but has a 6pin PCIE plug. Only problem is my XFX 8800 ultra needs two.
I also have an extension cord that goes from molex to pcie 6 pin, i thought i could use. But it says in the user guide of the video card that this isnt sufficient.
Is that true? or are they just covering themselves in case it blows up?
If not what PSU should i purchase?

It should work (but here's where I cover myself;)) but if it's in the manual....
As for good PSU's Corsair, Enermax are the two that seem to pop up the most, I have a corsair hx620w (and would buy another).
what brand/model is the curremt psu?
Cant quite remember, will check when I get home. Dont think it is a good one though. It came as part of a whole package and they generally put pretty crappy PSUs in those prebuilt systems.
I think ive scared myself into buying a new one now anyway.
Imagine if the 8800Ultra blew up. That would be a sad day!

If you do go for an Enermax, you might want to have a google and see if there are any compatibility issues with your motherboard. There have been a lot of them in the past year, with various boards from different manufacturers including Asus, Abit, DFI etc, so it's worth checking.

Galaxy & Infiniti are the affected ones - I haven't heard of any such problem with the Liberty.
Some revisions of the Galaxy/Infiniti had warm restart problems with a range of boards from 965 to X38. I personally have seen the problem on the Asus Maximus, Abit IX38 QuadGT, DFI P35 and P5K Deluxe. After each revision, the PSU has worked, until another board comes along that it doesn't work with, and then the cycle begins again.
I'm on Galaxy number 5 within a year.
For me, the current Enermax lineup, look great, have top notch cabling, but their reliability and compatibility isn't great and they are far from quiet.
