Re: PC5300 for overclocking
I had a e2180 which has multipler of 10.
I tryed 10*333 = 3.33Ghz Cpu speed. System wouldn't boot.
So what i did was lower the multiplier to 9*333 = 3ghz
Had a 1:1 ratio with the ram 666
And still had the higher FSB which is important.
The bios also does support ram ratios
What CPU is it?
Re: PC5300 for overclocking
Intel dividers only let you go higher with the RAM.
Generally, you will have straps something like;
CPU/RAM
200/400
200/800
200/1066
266/533 (will often show as 266/667 on P35/X38)
266/800
266/1066
333/667
333/800
333/1066
400/800
400/1066
So, in other words, your minimum RAM speed will always be twice the FSB speed.
An example would be;
You use the 333/667 strap and then set the FSB to 350, you will have 350/750.
Or
If you use the 333/800 strap and set 350FSB, you will have 840Mhz for the RAM.
So, you can't go downwards on Intel boards, just upwards.
Re: PC5300 for overclocking
Clunk. I'm thick
Can I use PC5300 / 5400 to overclock my cpu on an iP35?
Yes/ No?
Cheers chap
Re: PC5300 for overclocking
You can run upto 333fsb on an IP35 using the 1:1 CPU:RAM ratio with 5300/5400 at the stock RAM speed.
If it overclocks (like Ballistix 5300 does brilliantly) then you can go further.
Re: PC5300 for overclocking
Depends on your CPU and what Multi it has 7x/8x/9x etc.
If it's for the quad, which has a 9x multi - then you can get a theoretical overclock of around 3000Mhz before you start to overclock your RAM. (Your RAM is 667Mhz, so going off what I said in the last post, that would make your FSB 333. So, 333x9=3000Mhz ish).
After that, your RAM will be the deciding factor, but lots of people have had good quality lower speed RAM that's gone really high with a notch or two of extra voltage and maybe looser timings.
Re: PC5300 for overclocking
ok...thats what |I needed to know. Thanks chap :)
Re: PC5300 for overclocking
I have overclocked my PC 5300 RAM sticks, reaching 856 on their clock and 428 FSB, I have even gone up to 457 FSB, giving 914Mhz for my 667 Mhz!...so yes it is possible...I have kingston sticks though.
