Hi all, Well i got an XPS 420 but dont like it so it has got to go back,

Looking at building my self, so far:

    2 *2gb ram (Corsair/Ocz?)
    8800gt g92 512mb
    I already have HDs
2 of which ever sata pioneer DVD RW

    What mobo?

What is the best air cooling heatsink?

DO NOT buy the XFX 680i LT.. it is absolutely awful!!

Abit ip-35 Pro is apparently good, and the P5K-e is also quite good..

Yeah the Abit IP-35 series are all good.

The IP-35 Pro is on Scan today only for £96 which is a bit of a bargain.

If you have a bit more to spend then the Abit IX38 Quad GT (Komplett have it for £130) offers a few more features, 1600Mhz FSB, PCIe 2.0 among others.

Re: New Rig, whats the most popular mobo these days?

How about Asus P5KC or P5K3 deluxe??? Just seen that at Scan does it support Sli? It says crossfire but not sli? Also my dell atm is an X38 chipset, what are the benefits compared to p35? as the pcie 2.0 for example is on this dell but i dont know if it is a big difference?

Re: New Rig, whats the most popular mobo these days?

None of the Intel Chipsets (apart from skulltrial but thats out of everyones league) support SLi. So if you want SLi you are going to need to get an nVidea chipset. As to which of those is the best I guess the 780i but they are quite pricey the 750i supports PCIe 2.0, next step down is the 680i but they are not PCIe 2.0.

Yeah they are the chipsets I would be looking at. If PCIe 2.0 is important to you then x38 if not then as I say the IP-35 Pro on Scan today only is a bargain at £96.

Just a question, whats wrong with the dell?
the deals around now are excellent right now, considering the O/S and aftercare is included in the price

Just out of interest, what do you not like about the 420? I've got one myself and apart from the lack of overclocking options it's not that bad. Just wondering if you've spotted something I've missed

The aftercare is poo imho, pc vibrates for no reason, btx pc, little expandability, no oc possible, memory is mix of hyundai and some other brand. Noise levels arent as nice as my old p4 550 powerhouse which isnt good news really.

The Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme is technically the best there is but you won't half pay for it.
