    Help choosing a MOBO?

    Hello
Currently running an Asus P5W DH Deluxe which I think is pants and can't wait to get rid of it.
Have been looking into a replacement but can't quite decide on which one. I'm unsure of whether to try Asus again but perhaps I'm being unfair and the problems lie with the chipset rather than the manufacturer? Though manufacturing standards still don't appear to be on par with those from Gigabyte.
Still, hesitantly, I have listed some Asus mobo's on my short list SO can anyone PLEASE help me too decide OR list another option?

    Short list:
    Asus Maximus Extreme X38

Asus Maximus Formula Special Edition X38

    Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6

    Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5

I have neglected to add the Nvidia 780i as I believe from what I have read that they have issues?

    TIA
    Cosworth

not sure when x48 chipsets are out but x38 is being phased out because of this.

the maximus extreme uses ddr3 so wuld have to replace your 4gbs with the more expensive ddr3 stuff.

    Re: Help choosing a MOBO?

Why are you having trouble with the board? Is it stability issues, lack of overclocking ability, features etc.. If you could specify what you want from your motherboard we can give you a more specific response.

    Re: Help choosing a MOBO?

Yes I release that the memory will need replacing and was contemplating on do so in stages with 2Gb now and another two later on. This board will also allow, I hope, the ability to run two monitors off the third graphics slot whilst allowing a crossfire setup on the first two PCIe slots to one monitor simultaneously?

The X48 chipsets are due approx. mid March but unless I replace the Quad for say a Q9450 and o/c there is no real reason I can see for 1600MHz FSB. The X48 is though more power efficient than the X38 they reckon.

    What's happened?
    1. Sata port sockets poorly attached to the board, had to glue them on.
    2. Q6600 runs nominally at 1600MHz unless over clocked and often fails on the next boot up despite having run well previously for a whole day.
    3. Additional USB sockets supplied on the MOBO aren't recognised when plugged into despite being active in the bios.

    What am looking for?
A motherboard that will see me right for the next few years with the ability to add on with latest technologies and tweak more with without fear of crashing.
