Will these components work together?
Hi all
please bare with me i have quite a few questions
i have decided i need a new p.c... im going to start from scratch (apart from cd/dvd drives) as my current p.c is back at my parents house (im at university) so i figure i will let her have it as its to much hassle getting it up here
anyway i was just curious if all these components would work together as im still not very good at this (had alot help last time i built a p.c) so could you please tell me if it would... and if it wont why... also if you could recomend another part instead that would work that would be great. (im jus using scan as whenever i compare prices it normally always turns out to be the cheapest)

so could you please tell me if that p.c would work?
thanks

Re: Will these components work together?
not a bad setup. I would however change the graphics card for a 7600GT:

the 8 series(apart from 8800 and up) are seriously hampered by the number of pipeline they have and the 7600gt will perform better.
I would also go for a full Core 2 duo if you can stretch to it like:

the extra meg of cache will help the processor enormously with multitasking.
Re: Will these components work together?
great thanks really helpful... specially for the advice on the gfx card.. and i will have a think about the processor to see if i can really spend the extra bit of money
i take it all the parts i have selected so far fit together tho?
thanks starbuck big help :D
Re: Will these components work together?
what will you be using the pc for?
If it's for gaming, the extra 1mb cache on the processor I suggested won't make much difference.
Will you be planning to overclock?
Re: Will these components work together?
The motherboard has a 775 socket so it will work fine with the e2180 you chose
The graphics card, 256MB 8600GT is also going to work with the motherboard
The 2GB corsair memory you chose, is 800Mhz, the board supports 800Mhz, so yes that will work too.
The Hard drive is an IDE drive, why not choose a SATA drive? But yes, this Hard drive will work too, albeit I think the board has one IDE channel, so you will have to share it with the optical drive...get a second opinion on that.
The Akasa case and 460PSU are quite okay and all of this is going to work IMO, just get a second opinion on the IDE hard drive.
Goodluck :)
Re: Will these components work together?
You'd also be better off getting a different cooling heatsink for the processor as the stock ones are never that good.
A good basic one is the arctic freezer pro for about £13. Also means you can go for an OEM processor(just means it doesn't come with a fan and is normally cheaper).
Re: Will these components work together?
Should all work together fine, if I may make some minor suggestions nothing really major mainly personal preference.
Motherboard : P31 Chipset rather than the nVidea one Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Hard Drive: SATA rather than IDE just faster and in this case cheaper too Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Graphics Card: You may as well get the 512MB version same price ;) Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Case and PSU: This is good quality kit a bit more than the other you speced but better quality especially the PSU Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Don't forget you will need a Windows licence as well if you plan to use it (you may be able to get a cheaper licence from your Uni).
Re: Will these components work together?
