Upgrade Opinions Please

Hello all, I'm going up upgrade my computer as the motherboard is gone. I'll reuse the case, psu (350w), disk drives, multi format reader.

i'll add

Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H £36.99 £43.46

4GB (2x2GB) Super Talent TwinX DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz), 240 Pins, Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 5-5-5-15 £49.95 £58.69

Edimax EW-7728In 802.11n *Draft"n" v2.0* 300Mbps wireless PCI card
£16.89 £19.85

500 GB Samsung HD501LJ Spinpoint T166, SATA II, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ £50.99 £59.91

Intel Celeron Dual Core E1200 £29.87 £35.10

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 £37.15 £43.65

Thermalright Ultima-90 £17.99 £21.14

120mm Xigmatek XSF-F1251 Quiet Case Fan (for the ultimata)
£3.99 £4.69

Now I'm not sure which CPU to go for. It'll be upgraded late in the year or even early next when I probably get a nice 45nm quadcore. It really doesnt need to be much right now, except watch a few movies, and office work etc.

I guess the heatsink is overkill, might it run passive with the ultima though? Might get the heatsink later with the quad core upgrade.

it's quite cheap, but it's all I need for the moment.

so about £210+vat, does this sound reasonable?

A very unusual CPU -> heatsink combo!
Only go with the Draft N wireless card if you have the same router to go with it (and not just a general Edimax router, but the specific partner).

Otherwise, either CPU would decode movies and do general office with little concern, my only observation (based on experience alone) is the celerons end up frustrating the user. But these dual cores might be sufficiently different.

I was only going for that wireless card, because of speed. Will it be alright to connect to BT wireless hub?

I know heat sink almost costs as much as the CPU! but, it'll be quiet I was thinking and also later when I get the Quad it's all ready. The fan chucks 72cfm at <24db, thats a lot of air, is it too much going through the heatsink maybe?

It's not too much it's a very good fan

I would get the pentium dual core. You will probably sell it easier when the time comes or if you keeping it, it will be a better performer for whatever you might want it for. It's only £8 afterall.

Re: Upgrade Opinions Please

I saw that supertalent RAM on scan the other day. Not too sure about it tbh. If it has to be from scan I think I would get the corsair equivalent.

I can't think of any mobo's with all of that

Re: Upgrade Opinions Please

I've seen a couple of boards with onboard wifi but no with video as well.
For the sake of £10 for a cheap USB wifi stick I'd go with that option.
