Question Upgrading a Medion MD 8824?

My friend has one of these:

ALDI - the ultimate media centre - MEDION MD 8824

He wants to upgrade the PSU and GPU, think the PSU is only 200W and he wanted a 88000 GT, I recommended the Corsair 420VX (Think thats spelt right). Hes told me he can't get the PSU out or the GPU!

The GPU is a bit confusing surely they can't weld that in lol? Maybe he just needs to try again

But I'm more worried about the PSU cause that could quite likely be welded.

Take a look at the spec in the above link and tell me what you think about upgrading etc...

    Thanks,

    Tim

Actually a lot of the components are made by MSI. My mate's PSU on his 3 year Medion computer starting giving issues. It was actually a 350w PSU made by FSP. I replaced it with a 400W FSP PSU and there are no issues so far.

So its possible to replace Medion PSU's??? Do they have custom BIOS and Drivers because otherwise surely we could replace it witha Corsair PSU and a 8800 GT?

Most computer shops will try to rip you off.The FSP PSU was a standard model which you can get off Scan for around 30 quid. Remove the computer cover and you will be able to see the model number of the PSU.

or open the case and take some good quality photos at different angles

    and post them here
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Re: Upgrading a Medion MD 8824?

This is the funny thing, I posted this for him and he lives about 10 miles from me

I'm sure I can help but hes worked out how to get both out now we just need to see about upgrading...

Should any manufactures components for PSU and GPU do?

I'm really glad you guys were able to upgrade your medion md 8824 PC because I have one of those and am looking to upgrade too! I just wanted to know how it went, what parts you installed (model and brand) and how it's running now. Thanks!
