Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
specs in my profile for my rig...
was thinking a antec nine hundred as its pretty cheap considering how good i've heard it to be...
i really love the way it looks the fact the psu's at the bottom along with the cooling etc real real realllll nice case:)
is it as good for cooling and functionality as i think it is?
then i saw this... Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK but it looks abit cheap/stupid which i'm not sure about... it might look/feel less flimsy and cheap in reality i'm not sure? it looks like it would inhale and blow about so much dust:\ and what happens when those fans die etc how are you going to replace something that elaborate:S
so my question really is is the above suggestion crap and flimsy and a dust junky or would it be better... OR is there any other case's at the same price from scan.co.uk that you'd recommend over the antec?
links please if you make a suggestion.
cheers.
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
Wouldn't touch the A+ with a barge pole.
I'd take the antec 900 over it, but I'd take a P182 over a 900.
That said if cooling is more important than noise (not that the 900 is noisey) then the 900 proves better.
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
Yup Antec 900 good case I have one waiting a rebuild for when my Quad Core kit arrives :D
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
cool cause i really like the p182 but its ridiculously expensive for my budget.its a well nice case but i can't justify that kind of weight/pricing...
i think i'm going to get the 900.cooling is defiantly my needs. i know theres some annoyances such as having to remove the thumbscrews to get to the hdd's etc but i've got a old chieftec dx01 mid and its not got any of this tool-less access etc so it won't annoy me too much yeah it'd be nice to have but i'd prefer to have decent cooling over the getting stressed installing hardware factor.cause once you've put your stuff in its done isn't it.
really like the look of it too:) yeah that A+ just screamed tacky plastic and flimsiness to me. and those fans are mounted so dodgily imho especially the side one:S just thought i'd ask seeing as tagan own the company or are part of the same or whatever relation.

Review of the Aplus is here:
Tagan APLUS El-Diablo Tower Case Review
Seems to be made by Tagan!
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
I just think that the focus of 120mm fans (given the sheer amount in the 900) will provide much better cooling. They are tri-cools so you can change speeds at the flick of a switch. It's antec so the quality can't really be faulted imo. It's a quiet case even if it's not as good as the P182 and it's the same price.
Oh and it doesn't look like that monstrosity :D
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
meh double post, delete at will!!
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
It looks.. special - I don't think it's bad looking, but the light would annoy me at night. Problem is, the fan would be hard to swap if it dies. Regarding the ridiculously expensive comment on the P182 - isn't it similarly priced?
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
Seems to have gone up to about ~£87 from £80 recently but still a fair price for it I'd say.
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
£81 at Ebuyer. Good thing I snatched one at under £70 o.O
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
If thats the case (no pun intended lol) then I would get one from ebuyer :)
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
your confusing me here guys...
talking about the antec or that dodgy one.i love tagan (my psu for example) but hate that A+... looks so cheapy and flimsy...
gonna buy the 900 in a sec:)
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
bought the 900:D god i love scan:D
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
Good !, I have one and it's great. if you have an issue with the led's on the fans you could cover them with blu-tack or even change them if you want. Enjoy your build :)
Re: Which Case for overclocking/gaming rig?
antec cases look like the good choice. imma get a 182 or 900 next.

It's not the cheapness or flimsiness that worries me about that Aplus (Tagan?). It's the "OMG, MORE AIR IN = GOOD!" philosophy. Xclio are guilty of that too, in pretty much every case they've released. It never seems to occur that all the air that goes in must come out again. Those sort of cases are full of hotspots as fresh air isn't necessarily drawn in as much as the warm air already in the case is moved around.
From a personal point of view I can't stand the aesthetics of the Antec 900 either - I don't think it's much better looking. Mate's got one and it's no less tacky than it looks in photo-form. It's just a sea of plastic and lights.
If aesthetics are important to you it's much better to spend a lot on a Lian-Li (A70/A71) or Silverstone (TJ09/TJ10) which will easily out-last every component you ever put in it. It's a one-off buy and the style is conservative yet classy - it'll always just look great. Same as monitors - buy the best you can and just upgrade everything else.
