    Psu ??

    Just built my new PC
    E8400 (stock cooler)
    Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H
    2gb corsair DDR2 800 (cas 4-4-4-12) XMS2
I'm using the inbuilt graphics on the motherboard.
    Samsung SP2504C 250gb HD.

I'm currently using my old 400w generic PSU which seems to work ok, but would be greatful for recommendations for a new PSU as I may do a bit of overclocking in the future?

What wattage should I look be looking at?

I may add a GPU in the future (8600 GT or similar) but don't use my rig for gaming, I may add a second HD.

    Thanks
    Mat

You don't need much for that at all. Given it's price I would (and have) get the Corsair VX 450W which runs a very simialr PC to that.

It's totally silent and it can handle pretty much any single graphics card setup. With a quiet case, HSF and passive graphics card you could be on for a near silent PC

    Corsair VX 450W ~£45
    There it is

    Re: Psu ??

everybody recommends that PSU, go for it, they also do a 520w and now a 620w of the same PSU.
but 450w is more than enough..

    Corsair = Awesome

I wouldn't say it is totally quiet though.

    Re: Psu ??

I have the Corsair HX 520, now that is quiet, and being modular means no unused cables left lying about to impede airflow through case , highly recommended
    Cave canem!

    Re: Psu ??

for that set up i would go with staffsMike choise Corsair VX 450W
im more than happy with the one i have

a 400W enermax liberty (modular) would also work but slighly more expensive i use both 400 and 500 in different PC's .

the HX 520 would be a little over kill but still a good PSU ( i cant get used to all black wires lol ) i also use one of these
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

    Re: Psu ??

Yes ditch the generic PSU. The Corsair 450 has Japanese capacitors so should be reliable.

    Re: Psu ??

    Cheers Guys!
Been out today and got the VX450 and a new Nexus 80mm case fan from Aria, just booted up and the loudest part of my system is now my Hark Disk.

    Thanks for the advice.

I'll be asking advice on a GPU next, my only requirements are HDCP, I do not play games and don't want to spend too much.
