    Intel price cuts, 20th April

[Intel plans it usual price cut that will affect mostly the old 65nm parts. On April 20th Intel will cut Core 2 Quad Q6700 from the current $527 suggested retail price to $270. The super popular Q6600 at 2.4GHz will drop from $270 to $229. At the same time, Intel plans to introduce its Core 2 Duo E8300 45nm based CPU with 6MB cache and 2.83GHz clock and it will start selling it for $169.

Look at the price drop on the Q6700!

Nice. I saw that news some time ago, and it's making me think of holding for upgrades. Is the Q6700 capable of higher overclocks than the Q6600?

Not necessarily higher but easier to obtain (less stress on motherboard / RAM) due to the larger multiplier.

What kind of TDP does the Q6700 have by default? And what might it have at 3Ghz?

Nice price on the Q6700 but think I'll stick with my Q6600 @ 3G

Q6700 is just a total and absolute rip-off atm, after those price cuts it might sell a little better but right now.. who would?!
it's about double the price of a 266MHz less Q6600, ah well..

    nice 1 Intel

that should retail about £200-£220 id say, not worth it over the £150 Q6600

Re: Intel price cuts, 20th April

Whats the perform of E8300 like compared to E6600, I'm looking to build a HTPC this year as cheap as possible (savings will go toward future HHD expansion) but that is capable of playing BBCHD with ease. My main PC is a E6600 plays BBCHD nicely with 30% cpu usage, so I'm using that as a benchmark
