DVD Drive faulty?
my DVD drive worked fine last night, but i've been trying to get it to work today, no hardware changes at all last night.
but when i try and open up a CD it asks me to write files to the disk.

that's what it shows me, but as you can see in the 'Computer' bit, it already has files on the disc :S
anybody know what's up? or is this just a faulty DVD drive?
:help:

Re: DVD Drive faulty?
Might have to wait a bit more than an hour mate. We don't just sit around hitting F5 waiting on problems to solve. ;)
More likely a Vista problem than a DVD drive one, as the disk is obviously being read to an extent that the system knows what data is on it. Try uninstalling it from Device Manger and rebooting, scanning for new devices if the OS doesn't pick it up. Might just give Vista enough of a kick up the arse to get itself together.

Re: DVD Drive faulty?
cheers pal :)
tried what you said and it didn't work, so i re-installed Vista and it now works.
that's the first real problem i've had when it comes to Vista..
hope it's not a sign of things to come.
so yeah, if your DVD drive stops working with Vista.. reinstall :P

Re: DVD Drive faulty?
To be fair it's the sort of thing that happened with XP too. The CD reading/writing in explorer just stopping working for no apparent reason wasn't entirely uncommon.
Glad it's sorted. :)
