    E8400 Breaks £200

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail

I knew this lot were not the best before. But this just takes the biscuit!

Supply and demand does determine price more often than not but over £200 for a £110-£120 CPU..........thats why no one else has any...they have snapped them all up.

I was talking to Biscuit today about this on X-Fire, I plan on that CPU for my next build in the upcoming month. Should I have issues or they want that kind of money where-ever I go then I shall head down a Q6600 route and wait the extra time.

Im not too suprised seeing it shooting this high considering OCUK's past reputation..

But yes, supply and demand is the sandwich on the menu...

Can I ask what past rep, I've been blinkered a bit and only used OCUK for most of my tech needs over past years.

Well, its purely subjective.. as I did not have too nice of an experience with OCUK both on their retail or aftersales side of things..

OCUK only brings back these memories..

Tatty boxes, faulty components, month's long RMA and dishonest forums..

I'm going to stop flaming OCUK now as there are some honestly good sales.. but it was honestly not mine..

Oh I know of their forums, where talk about OCUK is not permitted.. on OCUK's forums... yeah.. hmmm...Reminds me of that tv show on BBC2 with the "local store"

Never any trouble with their services, but that cpu price is a joke, they know most retailers are out of stock and are milking it.

    Re: E8400 Breaks £200

Anyone one that pays £200+ for that core needs medication i think.

The Quad cores are £50 less and better. OK, so they dont clock as high but the life of a quad will be alot longer than a wolfdale.

    Re: E8400 Breaks £200

For real??? I plan on keeping my 8400 stock, with an aftermarket cooler to try to get more life out of it.

I assume your comment on lifespan is related to how hard it's clocked?

    Not at all.
Quads will be utilised more and more so the Quads, i would say, have a better longevity than any dual core.

    Thats only my opinion though.

    Re: E8400 Breaks £200

Because adding the Q6600 to my build is affordable but is the top end of my budget for my next gaming rig, where the E8400 sits in the nicer end.

How long of a life should I expect, my X2 AMD 4600 is about 1.5years old now and runs fine.

    Re: E8400 Breaks £200

Intel, AMD need to ship product to make money, they wont sell to us at stupid prices so its only a matter of time till supply gets going and prices come back to normal.

Some people will exploit the shortage, more fool who pays it, unless they have no chioce. Lets pray AMD stays in the game with some new CPUs to give a bit of competition.

    Re: E8400 Breaks £200

Well i have just given up on the Wolfdales and bought a Q6600.

Dodgy temp sensors and ridiculous price points (most companies are now £135+ which is still too high for that), has put me off them.

Glad I got mine from Scan for £130 inc VAT ... Silly prices, although I don't go near OcUK anymore since I experienced their RMA services. Although, that was over 3 years ago...
