Re: E2180 OC with P5B Deluxe
not using thermal paste will risk damaging that chip..
The last time in memory i heard anyone did that, their chip blew out of the water within minutes on reboot..
No you should use proper stuff, there are alternatives but its very risky..
People have tried toothpaste and it seems to be great, but only for a couple of hours until it dries out.. There are stuff you can try, i.e. if you have say a PVPP stock tablets and you resuspend them into sodium arginate + water on light UV agitation to make arginate branched PVPP polymer which 'sort of' will make 'ok' heat transfer..
Alternatively, setting sodium arginate to polymerise in water with the mixture of perhaps some iron, copper or aluminium salts will make ok thermal paste. But again, the longevity will be questionable..
oil is shear-thinning and will insulate heat transfer than actually help it..
Just pop in to Maplins or somewhere where there's a computer shop and get some shinetsu pads.. they make so much more sense than trying to reinvent the wheel (i.e. reinventing homemade thermal paste)
EDIT: I don't even know why I recommended all that, Most people wont have any access to water soluble metal salts and arginate salts..

Really? Well they just aren't trying hard enough then.
And yeah, good thermal paste is pretty much a must.
Re: E2180 OC with P5B Deluxe
well, since no one is talking about the OC, good OC voodoo54, yes cache size has an impact, as for your motherboard, it is pretty good, dont worry, other motherboards will not OC ur CPU better, this is okay. Just get some thermal paste, if you are using a new ASUS silent square, i think paste comes with it, did you check? Anyways, nice overclock.

Thank you for appreciation, now i have got thermal paste and put it on cpu, as i mentioned i replaced 2180 with 6300 so its paste already had been used,
Re: E2180 OC with P5B Deluxe
okay ,good, hope your CPU runs lower on temp now, do let us know about any changes you observe.

now the temp. has been reduced 5 to 7 C, and i am running at 3400 mhz, if i get excellent cooler then i hope i will run it at 3700 mhz as my system can boot at 3700 mhz,

yeah, maybe get a scythe Ninja, all copper one, looks cooool :P
