Beeping Power Adapter Dell Latitude d600

    Hi,

A friend of mine just gave me his Dell Latitude D600 to clean it up for him (It has multiple viruses and trojans on it ). Besides the fact that it won't let me connect to the internet (plugged it into my router, doesn't work), I noticed that when I plugged in his power adapter it wouldnt start charging, wasn't visible on the screen anyways, checked the adapter and saw no green light or anything and I noticed that it was beeping.

Could the Power Adapter be fried?

Possibly - or the connecting lead is damaged internally (often in the plug) - It could also be a problem in the laptop itself - there is usually an internal powersupply module that takes the DC input and converts it to power the internal electronics. If that is faulty it could be overloading the external PSU. (although if it works off the battery, that would discount that theory)

Are there any indications on it with it powered up but disconnected from the laptop? How are you charging the battery?

Does it power the laptop with the battery removed? (If so, the the battery is probably U/S)

I just tried to power it up with the adapter plugged in and the battery removed. Nothing happened.

Also, the laptop's battery said it was discharging while the adapter was plugged in.

Dell batteries have a button/meter you can press on them to tell you how much charge is left, give it a go.

Yeah, the battery itself is empty atm, thats nothing unusual. The thing is, the Adapter/Charger is probably broken, thats the thing thats beeping, tried Googling what it ment but couldnt find anything about it
