Dear All
I have replaced my E6300 with E2180 for testing purpose; the following is brief review of 2180 so that it will be helpful for many people, because with new M/B arrival, many old but useful M/B have been forgotten, like P5B Deluxe
Hardware used:-
CPU Intel E2180, 2.0 GHz
Motherboard Asus P5B Deluxe with v1226 Bios 1226 (latest till now)
RAM Corsair 2048 6400 C5D (Single Channel)
VGA XFX 8800GT 512MB Extreme
CPU Cooler Asus Silent Square
Bios Setting
FSB 330
CPU Multiplier Auto (10)
CPU Voltage 1.5000
Memory voltage 1.85
FSB/RAM Ratio 4:5
RAM timing 5 5 5 18
Spread Spectrum Disabled
Static read Disabled
PCI Freq. 33.3
PCI Express Freq. 100
FSB Voltage 1.40
N B voltage 1.25
S B voltage 1.50
ICH voltage 1. 057
Software used for testing and Benchmarking
Orthos
OCCT v1.1
Prime 95 v25.5
SiSoftware Sandra Lite XIIc
Everest Lavalays
Nuclearus Multicore 1.0 Final

General observations
E6300 had reached only at 2800 mhz with 400 FSB due to its low multiplier i.e. 7
With E2180, system can boot at 3700 mhz but the OS got crashed,
I did not use any Thermal paste between CPU and its cooler
Room temp. during testing was near 20 C.
Maximum Temp. during gaming was obtained by loop running Crysis Benchmark utility in “High” setting in “Win Windows”
I have got 5 FPS loss with E2180 @ 3300 mhz as compared to E6300@2800 mhz in Crysis high setting, which I think shows the Cache size impact on Crysis
All tests were run under Windows xp 32 bit
Some Questions whose answers are required:-
As I mentioned that I did not use Thermal paste (due to unavailability), is using Thermal paste will minimize CPU Temp.? Is there any homemade thing that can be alternative of thermal paste, like oil etc… (forgave me if I am doing blender)
Using Everest(and other monitoring utilities) I get temp. of both cores Separately under load 65 C and temp. of whole core 75, what is the reason?
Is my CPU Cooler is suitable for this level of overclocking, if not, then please tell me the better or best Air Cooler
Is my M/B (P5B Deluxe) is the best choice for over cloaking of E2180, if not then which M/B can overclock E2180 (clearly) better? And which drawbacks P5B Deluxe has with E2180?
CPU Idle temp. is near 38 C. by running Orthos within 10 seconds it jumps to 62/63 after that it jumps to 72/73 then it remains under 80, is it normal behavior? I did not get this JUMPS while overclocking E6300, is it due to absence of Thermal paste?
The motherboard has no modification regarding VDROOP, is this modification will lower the selected temp. in Bios? Can anyone tell me (or refer to a link) how this modification be done on P5B Deluxe?
sorry i don't know how to attach pictures within the forum, please guide me
