Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
Well i was changing my case fan so it takes in air instead of out. I heard a annoying noise from the cpu cooler(as if it wasnt on properly) vibrations most likely, i pushed it a bit and it went away, now the cpu has gone from a nice 44-50C too an incredible 66-68C. This is the e8400 so the results are wrong anyways but the jump is hardly the software, coretemp read that and asus probe/speed fan say 65C.
Any suggestions???? i am going to buy an arctic cooler 7 tomorrow just need to check for cash in the bank but this seems bad as it is close to throttling.
Thanks guys.
edit: that is at idle not gaming....

OMG, ORTHOS IN 1 MINUTE ITS AT 100c
sorry for double post.
NOOO 126C now.
Re: Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
The CPU cooler might have come loose somehow. Remove it, clean it then reapply thermal paste and reattach. There could be air between the cpu and cooler, air is a good insulator and will cook ur chip.
Re: Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
im gunna reboot as see if that could be just a software prob :P. its stable at 126C, no chip can survive that and be stable.
Re: Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
If you are looking at getting another cooler then this Xigmatek one looks quite good:
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
Ive just been googling reviews and it does surprisingly well, gives close to thermalright ultra 120 extreme performance!! It is tall tho ~16cm (same as all the big tower coolers). Seems like a bargain to me.
Re: Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
its idling even higher now..... 90C just by running firefox. I think ill leave it be till i get my new cooler. Ill take into account that one but ive heard that it oxidises since its copper+ what other metal that is and since the pastes are normally designed for one type of base it kills the copper. Think £15 would do me fine though since i not overclocking till 3 years time xD.
Re: Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
there is known temp reading issues with these chips, there has been many posts about it on this forum and countless more on other forums, do a search.
And its not over 72.3 degrees Celsius or it would reboot(?) if i remember correctly anyway.
Re: Disturbed the cpu's peace?xD
yes i know that, i have that problem. But the fact is it has been reading the temps wrongly from the start but it was reporting around 45-55C idle normally, now its ready 100C. It wouldnt boot 4 times today, 5th time lucky.
