eXtreme Power Supply Calculator Lite v2.5
That's the calculator I used last time
Tried it again and 637W was the answer hence the reason for me originally getting a 800W. The Tagan I got was the best for value and required lead options at the time.
Funny how this topic has evolved to be what is the best size of PSU as this wasn't ever my original question, though it has been educational. I originally wanted to know as to what IS NOW regarded as the best recommended brand of modular PSU. Mine isn't modular, as I was recommended at the time not to get modular, but not being so, is to be truthful a real pain. As I stated earlier I also now need to improve upon the lead choices.
Thanks Guys.
I think you should look at the 600W Zalman ZM600-HP Heatpipe Cooled Modular PSU +80% Eff.
Yes its 600W but its got great reviews and more than enough power for now and future components
I had a similar spec to you running a Q6600 overclocked to 3.6ghz with watercooling and a ATI 2900pro overclocked (this card drew far more power than a 3870x2) and I purchased a Corsair HX620 which was more than enough to power the system it has all the connectors you want as well. You won't get many systems using more power than this.
Core i7 860 @ 4ghz
MSI P55 GD65 4gb Gskill Ripjaw 2xAsus 5770 1003/5600 Corsair HX620 psu http://trust.hexus.net/user_profile.php?user=10950
The 2900 Pro draw more power than the 3870 (the XT certainly does), but I actually doubt that it draws more power than the X2. Still, on a non watercooled system, it takes three 8800 Ultra to exceed 800W (off the wall).
i'd probably go for a corsair or seasonic. I can't speak for the corsair, but seasonic PSU's are so quiet, and that can't be said for all PSU's out there...
they are also rock solid.
Intel Core2 E2200 @ 3.2GHz | Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme | DFI Infinity 975X/G | 2x2GB Corsair PC2-6400 |
Powercolor 4890 + T-Rad2 + VRM-2 | Samsung F3 1TB HDD | Seasonic M12 700W | Lian Li A05NB + 140mm fan top panel |
The Corsair HX is that tiny bit more quiet than Seasonic's own PSU (single 120mm vs 120mm + 80mm). Problem is, I don't think those have all the connectors the OP needs.
What about "be quiet!"? They are supposed to be the best PSUs in the world but quite expensive
PC Power & Cooling gets my vote for best, but they are expensive.
So how are you going to run two totally different cards in the same rig?
The parts you posted really arent that powerful. A good 500-520W would be more than enough. Liberty/HX520 etc.nps??:
500w is way not powerful enough.:
I think you are confusing yourself with what you require vs what components you have. If you are relying ona PSU calculator then its no wonder you are getting false information.
The advice given is good so im not sure why you are dimissing it.
They have gone fom one of the very best to just above average unfortunately.
They are now made by OCZ and as good as OCZ is, they haven't made a very good PSU since the Powerstream. Only average ones.
Agreed, around 500W should be enough for almost any system, only running 2 or 3 8800's and multiple disks is going to drive the requirements up.
