GF's Laptop TFT very dark urgent help needed

Hi guys.

GF just got back from her moms, and for some reason her laptop screen is very dark you can JUST about make out Windows Booting Up.

Now it runs XP Pro Sp2, and the laptop is about 1.5years old and out of warranty what I wish to know is COULD this be a hardware issue or possibly someone messing and how would I find out?

Could be the backlight.. A laptop shop will help you diagnose it.

The invertor is the other thing that can go.

Its a Cryrix thing bought second hand so not worth replacing the screen.

Tried it on battery only same issue sadly


May put off my ugprade to get her a new laptop, she needs it for her video editing and Youtube work.

backlight will normally set up back £50 - £75 for the part and to be fitted but if it isn't that it will get more expensive.

Shame about your PC though. Let me know what the laptop budget is though, I'll be happy to help

Got it going!.

Removed the battery after shutdown... and wham it worked.

Looks like it's been meddled with the background was changed.. so the fella of her moms is in for a right verbal bashing.
